Job Description:

Shultz Forest Management and Consulting LLC is seeking applicants to fill a full time Forestry Technician position. The primary focus of this position is to aid in forest management of private and public lands by developing and implementing forest management plans, mark and sell standing timber, forest restoration through timber stand improvement, tree planting, and invasive plant control, and various other tasks related to forest management. Typical duties include timber inventories, tree regeneration and invasive plant surveys, selecting and marking timber for sale, GPS mapping, GIS, tree planting, herbicide application, and other duties as assigned. The position includes some overnight travel.

Job Requirements:

This is a physically-intensive field position, and the successful applicant should expect to spend >90% of their time working outdoors, must be able to carry a 30 pound pack over various terrain, and work in all weather conditions. Encounters with poison ivy, stinging and biting insects, ticks, venomous snakes, and other hazardous conditions common to the forests of the area occur regularly. Applicant must be able to identify eastern U.S. tree species and preferably invasive plant species common to the area as well. An Associate’s Degree in Forestry accredited Forestry program is preferred. Previous work experience in the forestry profession is not required but is preferred. The successful applicant must demonstrate an ability to work independently and in a team environment. Applicant must present themselves in a professional business-like manner when interacting with contractors, clients, and the public. Applicant must be a self-starter that can handle multiple projects running concurrently with a rapidly changing schedule due to weather and client needs. Applicant must be a legal U.S. resident. The successful applicant must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and be able to provide their own transportation to work.
