Hardwood Tree Improvement & Regeneration Center (HTIRC) at Purdue is currently conducting a project investigating success of hardwood enrichment plantings and underplantings throughout Indiana (Montgomery, Whitley, Putnam, Jennings, Dubois, and Carroll counties). We are looking to hire a technician to assist us from late August to the end of October (start date is flexible within August). We are looking for a field assistant that is motivated, hard-working, and willing to work outdoors in rugged conditions. The sites are young forests that may be brushy/ticky; but also have great views and diverse wildlife. Technicians will gain experience in tree identification and data collection (seedling growth, crown width, health status). Ability and motivation to work independently in the field is required. Experience with tree identification and forest measurements is strongly preferred.
Hours: Flexible, but must be able to work on overnight trips (housing in hotels and/or cabins will be provided). Part time, typically 8-10 hours a day, 3-4 days per week. Some weekend work will be needed. We are willing to work with your schedule.
Timing: August-October 2024.
Qualifications: Ability to work independently in outdoor environments in any weather. Can maintain a positive attitude even on rough work days.
