Forestry Technician Nursery Operations

Under the close supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisor (Operations Manager), at the Lewis A. Moran Reforestation Center in Davis, the Forestry Technician will learn to perform routine technical resource management assignments of average difficulty related to the Nursery, Cone and Seed operations at the Lewis A. Moran (L.A. Moran) Reforestation Center. 

Duties and Responsibilities

*Assists with nursery operations and distribution. *Helps with seed stratification, sowing, irrigation, germination counts, moving seedlings, seedling thinning, equipment upkeep and sanitization. *Conducts data entry and quality assurance/control. *Lifts seedlings, stores within coolers, and coordinates pick up with customers. *Provides customer support for entities submitting requests or generating orders for sowing. *Provides direction to crews from the California Conservation Corps and/or Conservation camps assisting with nursery activities as needed.

*Assists with cone and seed processing. *Performs cone cutting tests, preparation of cones for drying via solar or kiln drying, tumbling cones for seed extraction, and spent cone handling.  Screens, dewings, upgrades, and hand cleans seed. *Assists in maintaining detailed record log related to the above. *Operates equipment associated with the above including forklift, tumbler, kiln, dewinger, screen machines, x-ray and monitor, air separators, balances, bander, air compressors, generators, and other equipment. *Provides direction to crews from the California Conservation Corps and/or Conservation camps as needed for processing activities.
