Salary: NLW £11.44 per hour based on 35 hours per week, plus paid holidays and pension
contributions.

This exciting role will see you responsible for one of the most important tern nesting colonies
in the North West. Responsibilities of the post include monitoring breeding terns, waders and
ducks, carrying out nest protection duties, and producing an end-of-season report. Good
communication skills and knowledge of coastal birds are therefore essential. Previous
experience as a warden is desirable but not essential.

Foulney Island is a remote site; therefore, the post holder is required to act in a
self-reliant and independent way. The post will be supported by the Southern Reserves Officer,
who is based at the nearby South Walney Nature Reserve. The post holder will also work
alongside the South Walney Seasonal Warden as well as volunteers.

Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Survey and monitoring
  • Nest protection
  • Visitor management
  • Reporting
  • Liaising with the Local Community and Volunteers
  • Assisting the other Warden and Reserves Manager with the overall management of the site

The contract will start on 2 April 2024 and run for approximately 16 weeks until 19 July 2024,
depending on the breeding season.

Accommodation is included and provided onsite.

The closing date for applications is 09:00 on Friday 23rd February
2024.

2024.
