Lawson Research Institute (Lawson) seeks applicants for the Dr. Frank Prato Research Chair in Molecular Imaging, administered through the St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation. The successful applicant will provide leadership within the most integrated hospital-based Molecular Imaging and Theranostics program in Canada. Based primarily at St. Joseph’s Health Care London, the Dr. Frank Prato Research Chair will join Lawson Research Institute’s Imaging Research Program, a vibrant program that has supported pioneering leaders responsible for many imaging firsts.  

Our long track record of innovations includes multi-modality imaging and theranostics, supporting novel applications in areas including the diseased and aging brain, cardiac and gastro-intestinal health, cancer and musculoskeletal disorders. Our outstanding imaging facilities include: cyclotron GMP radiopharmacy/radiochemistry laboratory, research-dedicated 3T PET/MRI, PET/CT, pre-clinical PET, 256 slice CT, and photoacoustic and near infra-red imaging technologies. Research is further enhanced through collaborations with Western University, Biomedical Imaging Research Centre and London Health Sciences Centre.

This appointment will add to our growing momentum in molecular imaging and theranostics research, ensuring that innovations in molecular imaging are recognized internationally for excellence within the field. The successful candidate will satisfy the high demand for clinical and basic research growth within our community and will provide leadership for current and future national and international initiatives.  The successful candidate will effectively communicate the strategic goals to other research disciplines as well as the broader community.

The successful candidate will be a successful and independent scientist as evidenced by: publications in top quality journals, a superior record of attracting external funding from a variety of sources (government, industry, non-profits) and facilitating external collaborations and partnerships, and a strong record of leading and growing diverse research teams through mentoring of students, trainees and supporting mentorship of new faculty. The candidate will have evidence of embedding a culture of inclusive excellence and belonging within their research program and mentoring philosophy. 

The successful candidate will be supported to obtain an Institute Scientist appointment in a Department within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University that aligns with their area of expertise. The appropriate rank for the Institute Scientist position will be determined at the time of initial appointment. Applicants must hold a PhD or MD or MD/PhD in a relevant field. If the successful candidate holds an MD, they must be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario in accordance with the appropriate licensing body and must be certified, or eligible for certification, as a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Funding of this position is established through an endowment through St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation and paid through Lawson Research Institute, salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
