For every child, hope

The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is home to only one Private Sector Fundraising (PSFR) office, the Gulf Area Office (GAO). This office has been leading in PSFR income generation at the regional and global levels, with a focus on High Value Partnerships Fundraising. Some other non-PSFR Country Offices (CO) in the region have recently secured significant grants and are also engaging with the private sector at different levels (e.g. Child Rights and Business, Shared Value Partnerships, and other non-financial activities).
UNICEF faces increasing challenges in sustaining operations in middle and high-income countries (MICs and HICs) in MENA due to limited resources, which stem from insufficient host government funding and decreasing Official Development Assistance (ODA). To address this, the MENA Regional Office (MENARO) is enhancing PSFR capabilities and income through a regionally mutualized fundraising approach focused on Individual Giving (IG) digital fundraising, the area of private sector fundraising that deals with generating adhoc and regular donations from members of the public through digital payments. MENARO is adopting a lean and collaborative strategy, working closely with Partnerships and Communications teams in COs in the region and with direct support from the Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP) digital and content teams in headquarters.

How can you make a difference? 

Under the supervision of the Regional Manager Partnerships and Fundraising, the incumbent will provide strategic and technical fundraising support to maximize IG fundraising opportunities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and possibly other Gulf Area Office markets, as well as in Egypt and Oman. The post holder will serve as a project leader and coordinator, with all the main duties implemented in close collaboration with PFP IG Digital Fundraising and Content teams, and MENA COs’ Communications and
Partnerships teams.
The position is accountable for leading the operations of ongoing and new fundraising activities and supporting the development of a future MENA PSFR Cluster, a multi-country operation that combines fundraising and operational efforts across several markets to maximize potential and ensure efficient, profitable fundraising. The incumbent will actively contribute to the coordination, planning and development of the IG fundraising strategy in the region.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

1. Leads the development and implementation of new IG digital fundraising activities (e.g. subscription fundraising products) in close collaboration with PFP IG Digital Fundraising and Content Teams.

2. In close consultation with the Regional Manager Partnerships and Fundraising, and informed by clear analysis of the external environment, develops a comprehensive IG fundraising strategy (fitting within MENA Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Strategy), with a focus on digital fundraising. Ensures effective alignment with national, regional, and global plans and priorities.

3. Supports the development of a coherent annual workplan and budget covering the strategy; monitors work progress and ensures results are achieved on time and to required performance standards; ensures effective management of financial resources, in compliance with UNICEF financial rules and regulations.

4. Assesses and mitigates the operational risks (e.g. Legal, fiduciary, etc.) related to the implementation of the IG fundraising strategy in the MENA region.

5. Conducts periodic revenue and expenditure tracking through regular reporting and in-depth analysis
of key performance indicators (KPIs).

6. Coordinates and aligns priorities for IG fundraising, communications, and partnerships activities between COs in the region, MENARO, and PFP team; engages consistently with the teams to monitor and assess results and organize and lead mid-year reviews with key markets to evaluate performance, align strategies, and make necessary adjustments.

7. Provides IG and brand marketing related analysis and recommendations for COs with IG fundraising activities as well as emerging markets in the MENA region, using relevant internal and external data insights (e.g. comparators and benchmarking analyses), including market research.

8. Builds support for PSFR goals from other teams within the COs through building effective collaborative relationships accordingly – notably with Communications in COs and in RO (to drive a strong brand and assure powerful content for fundraising), Operations (operational support for fundraising) and Programmes (strong articulation of programmes for donors and partners, and
compelling reporting). Advocates for adequate staffing in these teams to support PSFR growth.

9. Develops existing and new relationships with external suppliers to optimize the provision of fundraising services (e.g. logistics, additional Alternative Payment Mechanism on the Global Giving Platform, etc.)

10. Ensures effective sharing of fundraising results, learnings, and materials within the RO, as well as across the region and globally, through contributions to senior leadership presentations, conferences or workshops.

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have….

Minimum requirements:

  • Education: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in one of the following fields is required: Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Fundraising, Management or another relevant technical field. Alternatively, a first level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Work Experience: 
    • A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in individual giving, private sector fundraising, or other related area is required, with progressively increasing responsibilities, including direct responsibility for setting up operations, leading income stream and targets.
    • Experience in online retail and digital marketing can be considered as contributing to the work experience.
    • Experience setting up or managing a fundraising operation, ideally within a Country Office/Programme Country, is considered an asset.
    • Experience in, and knowledge of, the Middle East and North Africa context is considered an asset.
    • Familiarity with international fundraising is considered an asset
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.
