The Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships (PSFP) section within UNICEF’s Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division (PFP) works with National Committees and country offices to maximize income and continued growth. There are five teams within the PSFP section, including Global Philanthropy.  

The purpose of the Global Philanthropy team is to drive income growth from major donors (UHNWI/HNWI) and family foundations. The team will lead the development of these new opportunities and will support countries to grow this income stream as well as develop relationships at a global level with high value individual donors, and family and private foundations.

Reporting to the Fundraising Manager, Major Donors, the incumbent will work to provide prospect research support and capacity building to global markets with the potential and readiness to secure philanthropic partnerships. The incumbent will support the growth of major donor revenue in order to maximize resources to achieve results for children.  

How can you make a difference?

Partner with global major donor relationship managers and leadership to support fundraising strategy by providing prospect research profiles, managing wealth screenings, developing prospect research capacity and trainings, monitoring prospect research trends, managing prospect research vendors and identifying new services in the market (see below): 

Prospect Research:

  • Identify and research UHNWI individuals, families and family foundations with capacity and an inclination to support UNICEF at the $1million+ level with a focus on priority markets: UK, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Japan, Australia and US
  • Respond to and fulfil prospect research requests from frontline fundraising staff on an on-going basis by managing central prospect research ticket system within global CRM, UNISON, including storing profiles within Opportunities
  • Create concise, accurate, and timely reports on philanthropic giving potential within a market, including prospect profiles, to determine investment and opportunity within a country/region
  • Lead on conducting wealth screenings of local UNICEF databases/CRMs including analysing, interpreting, and synthesizing information to assess prospects philanthropic capacity and inclination
  • Play key role in developing parameters for and identifying prospects for specialized major donor fundraising projects: global high-value campaigns, diaspora fundraising, emergency donors and other local priorities
  • Support optimization of major donor portfolios by providing guidance on segmentation, prospecting, qualification and moves management principles
  • Manage global CRM, UNISON as it relates to prospect research requests, global prospect uploads and the maintenance of cross-border prospecting and partnerships
  • Monitor news, philanthropic publications and alerts to identify new prospects, to stay on top of latest trends in prospect research, and to identify new tools and resources
  • Manage prospect research vendor relationships, identify new research products, renew and negotiate contracts

Training and Capacity Building:

  • Lead trainings for fundraising staff on general prospect research best practices, tools and resources to conduct local research screenings and establish qualification
  • Provide guidance on identifying top prospects within existing databases, support segmentation and recommend ask amounts and programmatic areas of interest based on capacity and inclination
  • Collaborate internally and externally to create a community of practice focused on prospect research to share knowledge, identify trends, confront challenges and create new opportunities
  • Contribute to broader training and professional development offers by Global Philanthropy team as it relates to prospect research

Market Knowledge and Development:

  • Recommend key opportunities and identify challenges based on local market knowledge to help build and sustain short and long-term fundraising strategies and growth

DELIVERABLES:  

The incumbent will provide dedicated prospect research support and training to philanthropy relationship managers that will result in: 

  • Conducting in-depth prospect research profiles on current and prospective donors with a priority on $1M+ opportunities resulting in significant increase in engagement with UHNWI/family foundations
  • Wealth screenings and prospect lists created for priority and emerging markets
  • Trainings and presentations on prospect research tools, emerging trends and best practices to global philanthropy network
  • Management of global CRM prospect research system including data storage and updates
  • Provide dedicated support to priority markets in portfolio optimization, segmentation and mapping
  • Support prospecting during humanitarian emergencies including identifying diaspora HNWI/family foundation prospects

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in one of the following fields is required: International Relations, Social Sciences, Marketing, Communications, Business or Non-profit Management or another relevant field is required.
  • Alternatively, a first-level University Degree in a relevant field combined with (2) additional years of qualifying professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience in prospect research or data collection and analysis in a non-profit or related industry, is required.
  • Knowledge of the philanthropic landscape is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct comprehensive prospect research and produce concise profiles.
  • Scrupulous attention to matters of discretion and confidentiality required; ability to handle highly sensitive information appropriately and maintain confidentiality with donor information; knowledge of and adherence to GDPR laws.
  • Highly organized individual with strong management skills and the ability to prioritize and manage deadlines.
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently and as a team player with a range of constituents and colleagues.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, both written and verbal.
  • Must possess a strong work ethic, have confidence, take initiative and be an enthusiastic team player.
  • Strong customer service approach to interactions with colleagues and partners; ability to navigate complex environments and help build relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Fluency in CRM technologies, knowledge of Salesforce preferred, and proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, and with experience in using complex database.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Remarks:

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance.  Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for IP positions.
