How can you make a difference? 

Purpose of the Job:

  • Under the supervision of the Individual Donors Fundraising Specialist P3, the incumbent is to lead MCO’s innovation and new product development for Individual Giving (driven by insight) to uncover and incubate opportunities for new revenue growth. UNICEF Malaysia
  • has 170,000 regular pledge donors with a total PSFR income exceeding RM200 million and ambitious plans to double our donor base within the next three to four years. The incumbent’s primary purpose is to pilot the development of new products either cash or pledge; using a structured approach to innovation, to achieve our fundraising objectives. This role works alongside other stakeholders across UNICEF Malaysia PFP team, bringing new products and innovations to market.

Key functions, accountabilities and related duties/tasks:

Innovation pipeline management

  • Use trends and insights to identify new opportunities that could form part of the pipeline.
  • Coordinate the process to identify and agree on priorities on fundraising innovation by synthesizing fundraising challenges, blockers and potential risks.
  • Offer consultation and support to PFP teams on an ongoing basis, to ensure projects progress through the pipeline.

End-to-end Product development

  • Develop focused briefs for new projects, ensuring strategic relevance and clear objectives.
  • Use insight on our supporters, key trends and competitors to identify potential new offers and opportunities.
  • Lead Coordinate the development of proposals and associated business cases.
  • Analyze the budgeting of innovation projects and seek support for internal investment; manage the application process for obtaining funding support from the Fundraising Innovation Fund when required.
  • Select and deploy appropriate prototyping techniques to test and iterate ideas, and use learnings to inform a business case for further development.
  • Ensure appropriate controls are in place to manage operational risks associated with innovation.
  • Work with relevant colleagues in the different PFP teams to scale up and fully launch a product to market.

Knowledge management & innovation methodology support

  • Map past and ongoing fundraising innovation projects.
  • Collate and document lessons learned on innovation pilots.
  • Liaise with UNICEF’s global fundraising innovation team as the innovation focal point of the national office.
  • Engage actively in regular online community events and contribute to the knowledge sharing in the global community of practice on fundraising innovation.
  • Support relevant PFP teams to adopt innovation methodologies for incremental innovation projects.

Ensure efficient and timely procurement and invoice processing (It is estimated that this function will require about 10% of the post-holder’s time)

  • Manage budget to ensure funding is always available; including application and reporting for investment funds from UNICEF HQ or other funding mechanisms.
  • Ensure that all contracts are kept up to date in the VISION system and all invoices are processed and paid on time.
  • Ensure that all UNICEF procedures are followed at all times.

The following minimum requirements:

  • Education: A first level university degree (Bachelor) in Marketing, business administration, accounting, business or another relevant field is required.
  • Work Experience: At least 2 years of relevant work experience in marketing, innovation and/or new product development.
  • Knowledge of current theories and practices in marketing and consumer insights
  • Strong analytical skills to drive an insight led approach within the team and plan, prioritize and effectively monitor performance and the ability to analyze financial data such as ROI, cost per sale.
  • General ability to draft clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form; specific skills in direct response campaign and direct dialogue acquisition material.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage relationships with market research agencies, and suppliers.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team.
  • Pleasant Personality, with some experience in Customer Relations.
  • Knowledge of computer systems, database, internet navigation and various office applications, specifically interactive digital media.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English and in the local language is required.
