Why Your Role Matters:
The Future Students Activity Coordinator plays a key role in the Faculty of Engineering and their primary role is to work with the embedded Future Student Recruitment to design and assist with the delivery of engaging activities for high school students that showcase the range of opportunities available within UNSW Engineering and its Schools. These activities may be delivered in person at key recruitment events, or online to international students and may often be the first impression students have about studying engineering at UNSW.
This role works closely with the central Future Students team to ensure coordination of recruitment activity between the faculty and central teams.
Who You Are:
Our ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, able to engage and inspire high school students to consider studying Engineering at UNSW. It is pivotal they have a solid understanding of Engineering/STEM and education in a university and high school context (including an understanding of the NESA STEM curriculum).
They will be a true people person, able to create influence and maintain meaningful relationships with various stakeholders. They will be required to develop activities to showcase the disciplines and Schools available within the faculty and attend various promotional events throughout the year.
STEM teaching experience in a high school setting is desired but not essential.
• A relevant tertiary qualification and demonstrated experience or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
• Understanding of Engineering/STEM and education in a university and high school context (with understanding of the NESA STEM curriculum) gained through any combination of education, training, and experience. This could include first-hand experience as a current STEM high school teacher.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with multiple stakeholders across a range of teams whilst prioritising work against key objectives and strategies.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt and understand the needs and nuances of different audiences when delivering an activity or presentation.
• High level of attention to detail and demonstrated commitment to excellence in program and project delivery.
• Proven initiative, ability to work with minimal supervision, solve problems and make independent decisions based on strong understanding of overall objectives.
• Ability to interact effectively with high school students, parents and staff with sensitivity to student concerns and cross-cultural issues.
• Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to navigate through competing deadlines.
• An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
• Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
Role Requirements:
• The role may be require working flexible hours to attend various recruitment events and activities. Also, during operationally critical periods possible annual leave restrictions will apply.
