Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 700 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for a Protection Officer (Gender Based Violence Officer) for its activities in Mykolaiv.

This position will report to the Protection Team Leader (Gender Based Violence Team Leader).

About the job

Under the management of the Protection team leader (GBV), the Protection officer (GBV) will support the implementation activities to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls in Mykolaivska. The Protection officer (GBV) will be responsible for conducting GBV capacity strengthening interventions. The Protection Officer will work closely with communities, health services, women’s networks, government services and other organisations to share information about services available and how to prevent violence against women and girls.

Candidates without a background in working with women and girls affected by violence, but who have an interest in the area are encouraged to apply as on the job training will be provided.

She will be based in Mykolaiv DRC office, with field activities in Mykolaviska and Khersonska oblasts. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Support on managing and responding to online and phone based requests for support.
  • Implement GBV capacity strenghtening interventions for GBV and non-GBV actors.
  • Coordinating with key stakeholders to organize mobile GBV activities in outreach settings
  • Complete and ensure the safe storage of documentation.
  • Provide safe referrals to health, legal,psychological and other services as required, and provide accompaniment to services when requested.
  • Support assessments to understand the needs of women and girls as required, including leading consultations with women and girls and carrying out interviews with stakeholder.
  • Produce quality reports and documentation on activities and ensure their timely submission to the Team Leader for review and internal information sharing.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Team Leader and/or Manager, relevant to the achievement of protection objectives.

About you

To be successful in the role of Safety Assistant, we expect the following:

  • Commitment to gender equality and interest in working in the prevention and response to violence against women and girls.
  • Familiarity with women’s protection or women’s rights such empowerment programmes, reproductive health, counselling etc. is desired but not required.
  • Comfortable in speaking about sensitive topics and working with people in distress.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience in Microsoft packages, including Powerpoint and Teams is desirable.
  • Knowledge of English is desirable but not required.
  • Ukrainian languable skills.
  • Completion of secondary school, or relevant level of experience required. University study preferred.

We offer:

Contract length: open ended contract after 3 month probation period.
Level: Н – Non-Management
Designation of Duty Station: Mykolaiv – Full time based

Start date: As soon as possible.
Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for national staff.
