Chemonics International Inc. is a US-based international development consulting firm, operating in over 80 countries. Chemonics seeks a Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) Advisor for the anticipated 5-year, $11-20 million USAID-funded Senegal Ocean and Coastal (OCA) Activity, which will leverage the success and continue efforts of USAID’s Dekkal Geej and COMFISH+ activities with strong biodiversity and alternative livelihoods components.
The GESI Advisor will support the development and implementation of Senegal OCA Gender and Vulnerable Population Strategy. The Advisor will work across components and counterparts to leverage and amplify the essential role that women, youth, and other underrepresented groups play to advance marine and coastal conservation. The Advisor will integrate GESI-informed activities and introduce and facilitate GESI assessments and interventions. This position is open to Senegalese nationals residing in Senegal. - Develop and implement GESI strategy and serve as the custodian of the document, reviewing and updating it as required
- Develop and deliver training for Senegal OCA staff and partners on GESI barriers, concepts, strategies, and tactics to ensure that GESI is integrated into all activities
- Identify potential entry points and champions to improve gender-responsive budgeting and planning
- Conduct GESI-responsive assessment of policy and legal frameworks and make recommendations including grievance redressal mechanisms for community members.
- Support Senegal private sector landscape analysis by identifying entry points for inclusive impact investments.
- Ensure GESI considerations are incorporated into grant solicitations and awards.
- Contribute to Senegal OCA pause-and-reflect processes and sessions and provide GESI integration recommendations and specific activity inputs to annual work plans.
- Other tasks as assigned by the Chief of Party or designee.
Qualifications:
- University degree in social sciences or services, gender studies, international relations, business administration, or other relevant field required; Masters degree preferred.
- Minimum of three years of GESI experience in Senegal required; experience integrating GESI considerations and implementing GESI interventions on marine/coastal/fisheries projects, natural resource management projects, livelihoods projects, or other relevant projects preferred;
- At least two years of experience working with USAID or other donor-funded programs preferred;
- Ability to build consensus and coordinate with diverse actors, including government, NGOs, civil society organizations, and private sector;
- Strong communication and facilitation skills required;
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity; and
- English and French written and spoken proficiency required
