Primary Purpose:

To support the work of the University Library and Dean’s Office through a variety of simple tasks, such as resetting spaces, transfer of items between library locations and units, assembly of items, and when physical tasks are caught up, simple office duties.  

Nature of Work:

Reporting to the Administrative Coordinator, this position attends to a variety of physical tasks serving library employees under limited supervision. The position is expected to perform tasks independently, walking between library locations throughout campus as directed, sometimes transporting small furniture such as an office chair. Tasks are varied, well defined, and performed within established guidelines and expectations. Most skills are developed on the job. Some previous general knowledge is required. The position requires exceptional attendance and punctuality, and the incumbent must demonstrate a high level of reliability and responsiveness.  The work requires a moderate level of physical demand and excellent attention to detail.

Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

  • Assist with space turnover such as preparing vacant offices for the next occupant, monitoring shared spaces for supplies and tidiness, and returning furniture to normal placement after events. Assemble, relocate, and remove sit/stand stations as directed.
  • Assist with monitoring furniture and computer peripheral inventories and keep storage spaces organized and tidy.
  • Assist with event set-up for library events anywhere on campus such as delivering items to the location, arranging furniture, and setting up shade tent.
  • Physical transfer of small items between campus and library locations, such as: mail, deposits, keys, office supplies, items purchased from on-campus vendors, etc.
  • Assistance with basic office and library tasks such as data entry, greeting guests to the office, taking messages, opening locked rooms, assembling boxes and folders for storage of library materials, and other duties as assigned.

Education: Grade 12 diploma

Experience:

  • Experience navigating between locations at USask.
  • Experience using email and chat on a mobile device.
  • Must be bondable.

Skills:

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and knowledge of proper lifting techniques.
  • Knowledge of proper loading of flat dollies, carts, and hand trucks.
  • Proficient with small hand tools, specifically screwdriver, and measuring tape.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain attendance, punctuality, and reliability.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan out work.
  • Basic problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and customer service skills (consistently tactful, pleasant, and effective)
  • Demonstrated ability to follow multi-step instructions and keep supervisor informed of activities, requests made by others, and progress on tasks.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Basic computer skills (email, chat, file structures, spreadsheets)
