Taylor Root is retained by a Maritime industry leader with an incredibly rich heritage to appoint their next General Counsel.The business is undergoing huge transformational change and are seeking a talented and experienced General Counsel to join their dynamic leadership team. In this broad executive role, you will provide comprehensive legal support and strategic direction, across all areas of the business and a variety of global jurisdictions, ensuring the business operates at the highest standards.About the Role:

• Proactively support the business’ goals and reputation through timely legal and governance services.
• Lead on complex legal matters impacting various areas of the business, including providing legal advisory and legal affairs, litigation, and the management of claims handling for the group.
• Oversee the governance and of provision of company secretarial services for all Group companies ensuring that all statutory filing requirements are made across all jurisdictions.
• Responsibility for the legal compliance of all group companies, including

compliance with Bribery Act legislation, anti-money laundering, EU & UK GDPR and antitrust legislation, sanctions, anti-slavery and human trafficking,

• Oversight for the regular maintenance and review of the enterprise risk register.
• Responsibility for the procurement and management of all insurance (marine and non-marine) including any negotiation of insurance.

Who You Are:You will need to be a seasoned legal leader with a minimum of 15+ PQE. You must have experience of working in-house as a lawyer within the maritime and shipping industry at an international business. You will possess a breadth of technical knowledge across commercial, corporate, litigation, compliance and company secretarial matters.As this is a leadership role you will need to have a track record of operating at this level, possessing strong communication and management skills. You must be adaptable and able to deliver pragmatic, solutions focused legal advice that enables business growth whilst mitigating risk.This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in a rapidly changing environment.
