EWON is the industry-based Ombudsman scheme which provides all NSW energy and some water customers with independent, free, informal dispute resolution services. We work towards achieving fair and reasonable complaint outcomes for all parties, provide leading customer service and influence energy and water public policy. EWON is not a consumer or industry advocate.

Are you interested in making a meaningful difference in your career? An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and motivated senior leader in the awareness, policy and governance space at EWON.
The General Manager Governance, Awareness and Policy (GMGAP) provides strong leadership to deliver EWON’s Charter responsibilities for policy and influencing, systemic issues, stakeholder engagement and promotion and awareness. This role is the ideal opportunity for a leader with a passion for social justice to drive improved energy and water consumer protections, best practice community engagement and communications and improved systems and interactions between industry providers, consumers and government.
You are a senior leader with extensive knowledge of policy development and strategic frameworks, and a substantial record of achievement in building trust and credibility to influence outcomes.
The leader who thrives in this role will work closely with their team to develop their people and build a collaborate and cohesive working environment. They will design, execute and monitor strategies to identify and mitigate risk, contribute to the successful execution of EWON strategy and purpose, and become a trusted advisor, both internally and externally. This role is part of the Executive Management Team and reports to the Ombudsman.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Increase levels of access and referral to EWON services across NSW, particularly by communities outside the major cities, remote communities and small business.
- Provide communication strategies to meet the needs of customers, EWON members and other key stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders including co-delivery of strategic projects and initiatives.
- Manage the development of EWON’s public submissions on regulatory and policy changes and industry developments.
- Manage EWON’s systemic issues framework to ensure EWON is identifying, reporting and facilitating the resolution of systemic issues.
- Drive continuous improvement of case management through best-practice quality assurance processes, data quality and reporting.
- Manage EWON’s 350+ members and deliver valued member services.
- Ensure effective governance processes and provide company secretariat services to the Board.
ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role, you’ll need the following skills and experience:
- Tertiary qualifications and/or post graduate qualifications in law
- Minimum 5 years’ experience at senior management level
- Strong governance and policy experience
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to developing strategic direction
- Extensive professional management and technical expertise gained at an executive management level, showcasing a proven track record in leading and managing diverse functions within a complex and changing environment
- The ability to communicate effectively and influence at all levels of the business and possessing excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with a broad cross section of the industry, community and Government
- Excellent people management experience
- Demonstrated experience in successful achievement of key deliverables
- Experience in managing community outreach and influencing externally
