To play a key role in understanding of Council’s vision to enlist First Nation’s perspectives, philosophies and practices in all learning and teaching and operations of the Institute.
Primary Objective:
As a General Services Officer, assist the General Services Supervisor in the day-to-day functions of Property Services. Responsibilities will include cleaning of offices, residential and ablution areas, ground maintenance and building security.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Carry out daily cleaning of buildings and associated fittings and fixtures.
- Undertake programmed and ad hoc maintenance tasks, follow all directions from Supervisors to carry out duties as required.
- Assist in maintaining adequate stores and equipment for performance of individual and work team responsibilities.
- Assist with on-the-job training of staff.
- Report to the General Services Supervisor incidents of vandalism, breakages and maintenance requirements including identification of work health and safety considerations.
- With the guidance from General Services Supervisor, assist with vehicle checks, delivery, and cleaning, re-fuelling and minor maintenance, as required.
- Undertake a wide range of minor facilities maintenance, including repairs to furniture, fittings, hardware, equipment, and buildings.
- Carry out regular rubbish removal from campus buildings and maintain buildings to a presentable standard.
- Inspect walkways, roads and car park services, keeping them clean and safe for regular traffic and personal.
Selection Criteria – Essential
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations.
- Experience in industrial cleaning, general maintenance, grounds maintenance and gardening.
- Self-motivated and proven ability to work both independently and as part of a versatile team.
- Ability to act on own initiative in contributing to ongoing improvements in work practices, and the solving of unusual challenges.
- Ability to be flexible and work across a variety of skill areas and a willingness to undertake further training relevant to the duties of this position.
- Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.
- Current NT “C” Class or above driver’s licence.
Desirable selection criteria
- Experience in operating a range of small items of plant and equipment.
- Current first aid certificate or equivalent or the ability to obtain one.

- Copies of qualifications must be submitted with application.
- Applicants must have an Ochre Card and a current Police Check and/or the ability to obtain these prior to commencement.
