To coordinate and provide advanced genetic counseling services across a variety of settings, including Pediatric Genetics clinics, autism/developmental delay clinics, exome sequencing consent clinics, and additional multidisciplinary clinics based on divisional needs. The position will also include initiatives related to the Sparrow Outreach Clinics, and inpatient settings within the Division of Pediatric Genetics, Metabolism and Genomic Medicine.

  • Provide comprehensive genetic counseling services in alignment with ACGC Practice Based Competencies and the NSGC Code of Ethics.
  • Serve pediatric patients and their families across multiple settings, including outpatient clinics, the C.S. Mott Children?s Hospital, Sparrow Outreach Clinics, and inpatient settings.
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of genetic counselors, medical geneticists, residents, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Assess and interpret complex family and medical histories to evaluate risks for genetic or medical conditions.
  • Manage genetic testing processes from selection through to result interpretation and communication.
  • Offer psychosocial assessment, counseling, and support to patients and families.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams and treatment conferences, contributing to the development of patient care plans.
  • Contribute to genetic research projects and departmental policy development as required.
  • Ensure accurate and confidential documentation of all clinical encounters and communications.
  • Responsible for inpatient genetic counseling duties, including providing genetic counseling services to hospitalized patients and collaborating with inpatient healthcare teams.
  • Master’s degree from a program accredited by the ACGC.
  • 3-5 years work experience in a clinical genetics setting.
  • Certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or the American Board of Medical Genetics as a Genetic Counselor.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in case preparation, follow-up, and documentation.
  • Experience in a large, complex healthcare setting.
  • Familiarity with Epic MiChart and other clinical applications relevant to the University of Michigan health system.

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
