Job Description

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking an experienced Environmental Geologist for employment within our Environmental Remediation Practices group in the Orange and Long Beach, CA office to support soil and groundwater investigations and remediation projects. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in environmental and remediation system field data collection including drilling, soil logging, well installation and soil, groundwater and vapor sample collection.

In addition, the candidate will have experience in data management and technical report production. Strong verbal and written communication skills are critical for this role.

The ideal candidate must be able to work independently and productively in a collaborative team-environment, foster team building through inclusion and mentorship, display a high level of organization and communication, and demonstrate a strong desire to learn from Project Managers. For the right candidate, this position holds significant growth potential.

Tasks will include:

  • Manage field-based tasks of environmental investigation and remediation programs.

  • Oversee and lead well installation and sampling tasks, and able to communicate with PMs.

  • Project Management tasks including budgeting, schedule and scope development and tracking.

  • Data management, evaluation and report writing with experience drafting environmental investigation e closure reports.

  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance. Qualified candidates must be comfortable with periodic travel to project locations including driving and overnight stays.

  • Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, willingness to mentor junior staff, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • B.S. degree in geology, geological sciences, or hydrogeology.

  • 4 years of experience in environmental consulting (geotechnical consulting is not equivalent), including field-sampling procedures (groundwater sampling, fluid level gauging, etc.), soil boring/monitoring well installations for site characterization and remediation analytical data interpretation, and reporting: or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

  • Must be able to pass Federal Background Check to gain access to DoD project sites and Southern California Refineries.

  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License.

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment and random substance abuse test.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Geologist License or Geologist in Training Certificate.

  • Familiarity with common drilling techniques for environmental work.

  • Current OSHA 10 or 30-hour OSHA Construction certification.

  • Knowledge of RCRA or CERCLA processes.

  • Experience with local regulatory agencies (EPA, Water Board, etc.).

  • Reporting experience for routine monitoring, site investigation work plans, conceptual site model, and well installation/site assessment reports.

  • Task management or project management experience.

  • Proposal writing a plus.

  • Current OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification

  • Relocation is not available for this position.

Compensation:

Exempt Position: The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $85,000 to $110,000.
