POSITION SUMMARY – GEOSPATIAL ANALYST

Headwaters Corporation is seeking a geospatial analyst to serve as a geospatial point-person for a team that conducts interdisciplinary research with a focus on implementation of the Platte River Recovery Implementation Program (PRRIP). Headwaters serves in a unique role as a private consulting firm that carries out the day-to-day functions of PRRIP implementation by providing the Executive Director and all staff. This includes PRRIP administration, managing the PRRIP’s land and water resources, and implementation of a robust science program that uses adaptive management and other science tools to inform the use of those resources. The Headwaters technical team includes biologists, ecologists, an ecological statistician, geomorphologists, hydraulic engineers, water resources planners, a biosystems engineer, and a science policy advisor that specializes in adaptive management and restoration program governance. Candidates must have the independent drive to tackle complex, multidisciplinary problems, and the desire to work for a small firm.
This position will be the primary point-person for geospatial data, analysis and software at Headwaters and will provide support for a broad range of projects including endangered species habitat use and availability analyses, remote sensing monitoring of vegetation and geomorphology of the central Platte River, time-lapse photo analysis, drone photography acquisition and processing, and other research for the Platte River Recovery Implementation Program. A successful candidate will be creative in their use and application of a variety of geospatial tools to answer complex environmental questions and stay up to date with the evolving technology and techniques.

LOCATION
This is an in-office position that will be housed in Lakewood, CO. Headwaters’ main office is located in Kearney, NE, near the midpoint of the PRRIP Associated Habitat Reach (AHR). This is the ninety-mile reach of the central Platte extending from Lexington, NE to Chapman, NE where most of the PRRIP work occurs. Headwaters’ science staff are located in Kearney and water/engineering staff are based in Headwaters’ Lakewood, CO office. Periodic travel for meetings, and conferences (3 – 5 days a month) will also be necessary. This position is not eligible for full-time remote work.
EDUCATION
B.S./B.A. required (M.S. preferred) in GIS, Geography, Geospatial Sciences, or natural resources fields with related coursework in GIS, python, and remote sensing.
EXPERIENCE
Experience not required for Masters applicants but strongly preferred for Bachelors. Strongly prefer candidates with demonstrated experience with geospatial analysis and remote sensing applications.
SALARY
Headwaters Corporation will offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications relevant to this position. Starting range of $65,000-80,000/year with potential for negotiations of higher salary for highly qualified candidates.
