GIRL Team Leader Rwanda

Role Purpose

The FCDO-funded Girls in Rwanda Learn (GIRL) will help improve learning outcomes for girls and boys through technical assistance and delivery of continuing professional development activities. The Team Leader will provide technical and professional leadership and overall project management for the English (as a language and language of instruction) activities on the GIRL project. The post holder will be responsible for the overall quality delivery of the English components of the project, management of the contracted budget, client and internal reporting, and establishing and leading the English project team that will include full-time British Council staff and external part-time consultants.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • First degree
  • TEFL-Q: a diploma-level qualification in teaching English as a foreign/second language

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Project management qualification
  • Masters level qualification in ELT

Role-specific knowledge, experience and skills:

The main essential knowledge and experience points that we are looking for you to evidence are:

  • Successful track record in managing large-scale teacher education projects, including remotely
  • Experience in leading diverse teams, including remotely
  • Experience in delivering externally funded projects or programmes, including remotely
  • Experience in overseeing monitoring, evaluation, research and learning (MERL) within projects and incorporating lessons learned from MERL into programmes and strategy
  • Experience in managing high-level relationships with diverse stakeholders including multilateral agencies, donors, government officials, academics, and external consultants
  • Experience of working in Sub-Saharan Africa and/or other development contexts
  • Business and commercial acumen
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Embedding culture and behavioural change to improve effectiveness and
  • efficiency
  • Programme and project management
  • Evidence-based decision-making and problem-solving
  • Relationship building and management

Contract Duration April 2024 to March 2027 (pending signed contract with donor)

Contract Type Locally Engaged or LTSIA (Long-Term Strategic International Assignment)

Locally Engaged – Candidates for this role may have a natural right to work in this location and would normally already be based in the location. We encourage applications from candidates in Rwanda.

LTSIA – This role will also be offered on long-term strategic international assignment terms which includes visa and transfer support and benefits such as assignment allowances, housing, utilities, and schooling. Please note Visa approvals are beyond the British Councils control so any job offer will be subject to securing the required right to work. The full International Assignment package is offered at the discretion of the British Council. It may not be available to candidates who are currently already based in another location but have significant connections to the host location. Applications for locally hired candidates are welcome but if successful will not qualify for the international assignment package and will continue local terms and conditions of service.
