Exciting opportunity for a GIS Analyst to contribute to the assessment, monitoring, and design of restoration projects throughout the Pacific Northwest! This full-time position would provide critical support to Cramer Fish Sciences (CFS) in geospatial analysis; data acquisition, processing, and validation; map development, data management and organization; field work; project reporting tasks; and staff collaboration to solve problems and answer research questions. The position will be based out of our Issaquah, WA office. GIS Analysts with backgrounds in biology and Biologists with strong GIS skills are encouraged to apply!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create informative and visually appealing maps and figures for technical reports and presentations and help develop mapping templates and protocols.
  • Develop virtual mapping applications and tools.
  • Develop and implement frameworks and SOPs for a wide spectrum of remote sensing and GIS analyses to support river assessment and design projects.
  • Manage, analyze, summarize, and share data using GIS software, R, and other statistical packages.
  • Gather and vet spatial data from public and private sources.
  • Conduct rapid field assessments to validate remote sensing data and analysis.
  • Assist senior staff on various tasks including literature reviews, data visualization, data summaries, and problem solving for various projects, studies, and other assignments.
  • Perform habitat assessments including mapping of stream channels with drones and survey grade equipment (e.g., RTK, Total Station) and measurement of fish habitat characteristics (e.g., channel units, wood, substrate).
  • Effectively manage multiple project deadlines and tasks, track budgets and time, and communicate with Project Managers.
  • Write annual project reports including data summaries and analyses, following guidelines from Project Managers.

EDUCATION / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in natural science, geography, surveying, or related field and 2 or more years of demonstrated experience performing spatial data analyses in a professional setting.
  • Undergraduate course work in fisheries science, ecology, geomorphology, environmental science, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency completing complex natural resource projects using ArcGIS and/or QGIS.
  • Strong geospatial coding skills and proficiency with database programming languages such as SQL, R or Python.
  • General knowledge of Pacific Northwest fish biology, aquatic or plant ecology, fish habitat requirements, fluvial geomorphology and hydrology.
  • Experience creating data summaries and visualizations in R, Excel, Illustrator, and similar software.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Licensed drone operator and experience collecting data with a drone.
  • Experience conducting field surveying and mapping with RTK GPS and other surveying and mapping equipment.
  • Experience conducting stream and other aquatic habitat surveys for salmon and trout.
  • Experience conducting statistical analysis using R or similar platform.
  • Experience processing remote sensing data using lastools, Agisoft metashape, R, or other programs.
  • Experience in environmental consulting.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The work environment is friendly, team-oriented, cooperative, and respectful.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement of the job.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be comfortable working in aquatic environments including wading, snorkeling, swimming, and boating in small and large rivers, streams, lakes, and estuaries.
  • Must be able to walk long distances and across a variety of terrains, including uneven surfaces.
  • Working irregular hours at times in order to meet project deadlines.
  • Long periods of computerized data analysis in an office environment.
  • Occasional travel to remote areas for 4-5 days at a time.

COMPENSATION: $62,000 – $71,000/year (depending upon experience). 401 (k) has a 3% match and full vesting after one year. The annual cash bonus has a 3% target. Benefit package includes: medical, dental, vision, basic life, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, employee assistance programs, PTO, paid company holidays, and other various voluntary benefits.

ESOP: CFS is a 100% employee-owned company. Our employee stock option plan (ESOP) is a qualified defined contribution plan. Our target ESOP contribution is 5%. Eligibility is after one year of service with an entry date of Jan 1 or July 1.
