Job Description

ARC is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to fill the role of a GIS Landscape Analyst for the organization’s conservation programs.  In this role, you will be a critical member of our leadership team by providing expertise in remote sensing, geospatial analysis, data management, and cartographic skills. The GIS Analyst will work remotely and support our Regional Coordinators and Leadership Team to address a diversity of geospatial needs for our on-the-ground programs,  collaborate in developing GIS-based conservation programs, and manage the PARCA database. This position will range from map mapping, modeling, and database management to leadership and creativity for exploring solutions to the pressing needs that will guide conservation strategy and implementation. Key Responsibilities

  • GIS Analyses: Conduct a variety of GIS analyses ranging from remote sensing, species distribution models, and habitat modeling. These analyses will range in complexity depending on project or program needs.
  • Innovation: Help to lead efforts to stay informed and implement new technologies and oversee their application to ask and answer complex questions.
  • Data Management: Adhere to the highest standard of data management to develop and maintain GIS databases, ensuring data accuracy and integrity. Maintain project and program organization in a variety of software (e.g., ESRI programs, Dropbox, etc.).
  • Cartography: Create high-quality maps and charts for project reports, collaborator requests, publications, and ARC’s website. Maintain and update as needed ARC’s Priority Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Areas database and maps.
  • Communication: Communicate regularly and effectively with team members and project partners in GIS methodology and analyses to problem-solve and complete projects.

Expectations/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science or a related field
  • 3+ years of professional experience in GIS analysis and cartography
  • Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ESRI ArcPro, ArcGIS Online, etc)
  • Experience with remote sensing and landscape analyses
  • Experience with spatial data management, editing, and conversion
  • Strong skills in map creation, data visualization, and report generation
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or within a team
  • Excellent problem solving, prioritization, communication, and organizational skills to manage multiple projects
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, SQL) for GIS automation is a plus
