Western EcoSystems Technology, Inc. (WEST) has an opening for a temporary, full-time GIS Technician. Location of the position is flexible depending on the qualified applicant; however, preference may be given to an applicant based out of one of WEST’s existing US offices.

Key Details:

  • Salary: $19 – $22/hour, DOE
  • Workload: 30- 40 hours/week
  • Start Date: June 30, 2024 (Exact date is negotiable)

Job Description:

The ideal candidate will have an interest in GIS as it is applied to the environment and natural resources. The successful candidate will be responsible for spatial data entry, updating spatial data sources and references, producing and editing professional maps, and performing basic spatial analyses for a wide range of environmentally focused projects for industry, government, and private organizations.

This is a general description of the functions for this position and is not inclusive of all duties which may be associated with this position. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completed coursework in Geography or GIS, or a related field, such as Remote Sensing, Information Technology, Biology, Environmental Science, or Statistics 
  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro
  • Understanding of cartographic principles
  • Understanding of spatial data file types
  • Great attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
  • Highly organized
  • Self-starter
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of team
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment

 Additional Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with QGIS
  • Experience reading and executing Python or other programming languages
  • Experience troubleshooting GIS technical issues
  • Experience with geospatial applications such ArcGIS Online and Google Earth
  • Experience with common WEST survey types and reports

After an offer of employment is made, the candidate must successfully pass a pre- employment background check, drug screening, and a DMV records check that meets WEST’s minimum criteria to operate a motor vehicle on behalf of the company.  A valid driver’s license will be required.
