Job description

The project Strengthening the Rights-Based Approach in Civil Society Organisations promotes the human rights of vulnerable groups on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). On the one hand, civil society organizations are empowered with appropriate human and technical resources to carry out their mandate to implement the human rights-based approach. On the other hand, the project aims at improving the legal and political framework conditions for the protection of human rights and for the work of civil society organizations.

Your tasks

Advise and support the management of the National Union of Disability Organizations in Rwanda (NUDOR) on strengthening organizational structures and processes through further integration of the human rights-based approach
Develop the capacity of NUDOR’s staff in strategic and operational planning
Advise NUDOR on strengthening capacities for evidence-based advocacy with duty bearers, with a particular emphasis on regional and international human rights cooperation
Advise NUDOR on strengthening its capacities as an umbrella organisation on methods that best support and facilitate self-representing member organisations
Support the development of quality assurance mechanisms to underpin publications of relevant disability inclusion abstracts
Support the development of a monitoring and evaluation system that captures and promotes the use of good practices and lessons learnt regarding NUDOR program implementation
Advise other project partners on disability rights and on implementing disability inclusion

Your profile

University degree in law, human rights, social work, or another relevant field
Several years of work experience
Experience in development cooperation, human rights, or disability rights
Experience advising on special needs education and disability rights
Work experience with and/or in countries of the Global South, especially engaging with civil society and/ or government officials and institutions
Strong skills in teamwork, networking, facilitation, cooperation, and intercultural competence
Willingness to organize field visits and to travel to different project locations within the country of assignment regularly
Business Fluent in English

Location information

In general, the security situation is calm. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times. Please also check the county-specific information provided by the German Federal Foreign Office. A contact person for security risk management is appointed at the local GIZ office. GIZ does not impose any restrictions on life partners and family members to move with you to the country of deployment. Please note that the general and personal living conditions in the country of assignment may meet with different legal and social acceptance. We gladly support you with our many years of experience.

GIZ’s Development Service is looking forward to applications of candidates with a professional qualification and / or university degree and at least two years of professional experience. In addition you hold the German nationality or the nationality of a member state of the European Union.

Willingness to travel on a regular basis is required.
