Global Business Development Director

We are currently recruiting a Global Business Development Director to join our Programs team.

This is a hybrid position, based in Washington, DC.

Salary is circa $130,000 per annum plus benefits.

About the Opportunity.

We are looking for a Global Business Development Director who is a:

Visionary leader, driving a highly collaborative process to crystallize and lead RI’s Program Development vision and strategy

Creative and entrepreneurial professional, leading the organization’s business development efforts as a means of high-impact programming at RI.

Consummate humanitarian voice, articulating RI’s sharpened positioning as a leader in the humanitarian and development sector, globally.

Team builder and talent developer, working as an integral contributor building Program Development capacity and driving talent development throughout the organization.

Kind contributor to an extraordinary team, contributing to collective problem solving as the organization grapples with complex challenges in high-risk settings.

You will be a creative and entrepreneurial professional to lead the organization’s business development efforts. Leading the business development approach globally. Drive RI’s business development strategy, and oversee Program Development staff globally to successfully identify, lead, prepare for, and win proposals for our new programs.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

Spearheading RI’s overall business development efforts and leadership of:

  • Development of RI’s global institutional donor fundraising strategy
  • Execute this strategy at the global level with targeted support to the regional and country levels
  • Provide critical analysis and insight to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and RI Boards on business development trends, strategic donor relationships and opportunities, and critical challenges or opportunities
  • Instill a practice of strong program design in collaboration with other team leads
  • Build RI capacity and position RI to successfully prime for development proposals (USAID, EU, others) through donor engagement, consortia development, recruitment of key roles, innovative evidence-based technical and cost proposal designs
  • RI’s engagement with key institutional donors, as well as relationships with non‐profit and for‐profit partner organizations.
  • The proposal development process of strategic opportunities for the organization
  • Key funding opportunities, including lead writing strategic bids and coordinating/ contributing to strategic bids led by other teams;
  • Cultivate and manage a consultant pool of high calibre proposal writers;
  • Of program development staff across RI operations

You will lead on Value-Added Partnerships:

  • Explore, lead, and facilitate value-added partnerships at global, regional, and country levels with the private sector, research institutions, and academia that add depth and scale to RI’s work through innovative, evidence-based design, thus enabling greater resilience, durable solutions, and long-term community health and wellbeing.
  • Serve as RI’s energizing spokesperson, articulating RI’s sharpened positioning as a leader in the humanitarian and development sector and position RI as the highest quality evidence-based, innovative actor in both humanitarian and development circles.

About You.

You will bring the following experience and skills.

  • High emotional intelligence and ability to represent, influence, and lead
  • Track record of leadership and achievement in a previous, similar role and progressive responsibility
  • Proven experience managing teams in challenging/complex contexts and INGO context
  • Successful lead proposal writing and partnership development track record
  • Successful team management and leadership skills with the ability to work and support teams working in highly complex security situations
  • Ability to analyze complex organizational challenges and present innovative solutions
  • Demonstrated proficiency to write clearly, insightfully and persuasively on tight deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • A passion and ability to work with field teams for sustained periods
  • Master’s degree in international relations, business administration or other relevant field or equivalent work experience
