Global Call Engagement Specialist

This is a one-year limited term, hybrid position which requires 8 days per month in our office in Washington DC. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission as WRI is unable to sponsor any visa work sponsorship for this position. To be eligible for this position, you must be a resident of DC, Maryland or Virginia at the start of employment.

 

About the Program:

 

The NDC Partnership brings together more than 200 members, including more than 120 countries, developed and developing, and more than 80 institutions to create and deliver on ambitious climate action that helps achieve the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Governments identify their NDC implementation priorities and the type of support that is needed to translate them into actionable policies and programs. Based on these requests, the membership offers a tailored package of expertise, technical assistance, and funding. This collaborative response provides developing countries with efficient access to a wide range of resources to adapt to and mitigate climate change and foster more equitable and sustainable development.

 

Job Highlight:

 

Reporting to the Director, Country Engagement, NDC Partnership, you will strengthen the technical support provided to countries through the Global Call and enhance Country Engagement team capacity by i) supporting country requests relating to NDC and LT-LEDS formulation, update and ambition raising, ii) tracking and enhancing partner engagement, including programmatic support opportunities, iii) developing and maintaining the systems to enhance efficiency in meeting Global Call deliverables, and iv) supporting with coordination around strategic partner events.

 

What will you do:

 

Partner Engagement Tracking (30%):

 

  • Develop framework for partner engagement tracking and coordinate with respective counterparts for population
  • Join strategic conversations with partners and liaise with Country Engagement team
  • Review facilitator and Partnership Action Fund reports to identify key challenges and opportunities with partners
  • Prepare status report of country support gaps and on-going partner engagement for follow up

 

StrategicPartnerEventCoordination(20%):

 

  • Support Project Manager with partner engagement around key events (e.g., UNEP Regional Fora, UNGA, Regional LEDS events, GCAP, COP 16, and COP29
  • Support Global Call team with data analysis, insights, and strategic guidance for partner engagement around events
  • Prepare concept notes and support events led in coordination with key partners
  • Provide inputs and outputs from strategic events, including but not limited to talking points, presentations, and reports

 

Systems Development, Enhancement and Maintenance (30%):

 

  • Audit and improve the filing and tracking systems for the Global Call to ensure clear information flow across the Support Unit and partners
  • Systematize partner support data and delineate next steps for engagement
  • Provide recommendations to the Program Manager on process and system development to enhance the efficiency and impact of information and data tracking
  • Support Global Call team with data analysis, insights, and inputs around partner engagement for SU reporting (e.g., Steering Committee, Development Partner reports, etc.)

 

Support Country Needs and Liaise with Partners (20%):

 

  • Support Country Engagement team with RSF development and identifying priorities for expert and partner engagement
  • Update templates, processes, and procedures in the operating manual as well as their dissemination across the Support Unit and to external partners
  • Delineate next steps for engagement, including identifying priorities for Partnership Action Fund inclusion
  • Identify resources and best practices and make available to countries and internal team as needed.

 

What will you need:

 

  • Education: You have completed a bachelor’s in natural sciences, economics, engineering, environmental management, climate, political science, administration, finance, international relations, international development, or a related field. An additional 2 years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
  • Experience: You have a minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in environmental data and information management
  • Excellent knowledge of international climate policy, especially on the UNFCCC decisions framework on NDCs and LT-LEDS
  • Experience working in environments in which coordination with internal and external partners has been a core task
  • Worked in environments of high pressure with competing priorities and deadlines
  • Prior experience in international organizations with a focus on economic development and sustainability
  • Have worked with or are familiar with the work of the NDC Partnership.
  • Languages: Fluency in Spanish and/or French will be considered an asset
  • Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization

 

Potential Salary: US salary range is between 57,000 and 62,000 USD. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
