Salary Level: US: Starting salary for this role will be USD $53,200 – $63,175, commensurate on experience. 

Valid unrestricted work authorization in the country in which you will be based (United States) is required at the time of application for this position.

General Position Summary 

The Global Compensation and Benefits Officer is responsible for participating in the design and implementation of the policies, procedures and systems of Mercy Corps’ Global Compensation and Benefits portfolio, ensuring Mercy Corps Compensation and Benefits Team meets the needs of team members in 40+ global locations. The Global Compensation and Benefits Officer supports all global benefits, wellness and compensation, programs for Mercy Corps staff.  

This individual will support the Director – Global Total Rewards by administering Compensation and Benefits strategies and programs that are aligned and integrated with business plans, which will enhance our talent attraction, retention, performance, and development initiatives globally. This position will also support Mercy Corps’ compensation and benefit programs through consistently applying and administering internal policies and government regulations with a strong diversity and equity lens. A key element of this role focuses on building, maintaining, and strengthening relationships as well as an integrated and strong service delivery model. 

Essential Job Responsibilities  

  • Supports US and non-US benefits programs, policies, and initiatives.
  • Contributes to the evaluation of the organization’s benefits and current programs and their alignment to the philosophy, budget, and external value.
  • Participates in the carrier/vendor marketing process (including preparing the Request for Proposal, working with the carriers/vendors to gather and negotiate quotes; compiling the analysis of the responses) and assist with the implementation of new vendors and/or carriers,
  • Contributes to the completion of accurate financial reports in a timely manner.
  • Assists with escalated HR requests (from HR) in a timely manner.
  • Supports the development of benchmarking reports, benefits dashboards and summarize findings.
  • Supports global compensation initiatives.
  • Supports compliance initiatives.
  • Supports the introduction of benefit initiatives in new countries and manages and reviews current programs in existing countries.
  • Supports the operationalization of innovation and process improvements that support the organization’s growth, efficiencies, and capability enhancement.
  • Assists with vendor relations and service levels and builds trust.
  • Supports HR compliance of benefit plans with the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
  • Supports oversight on the administration of the organization’s benefits program including health and welfare, 403(b), leaves of absence, wellness program, workers’ compensation, executive benefits, and others.
  • Supports the organization’s Wellness program and advocates for a culture of health.
  • Supports the communication of and measurement of success criteria for the global wellness program.
  • Supports HR with the annual benefit renewals and US open enrollment process and ensures that plan design changes are aligned with budget, applicable mandates such as the ACA and the Mercy Corps benefit philosophy.
  • Supports global wellbeing, including tasks to review country specific culture and programs, policies, and trends.
  • Supports data analytics to support and shape business decision-making.
  • Supports Finance to ensure accurate reporting of benefit costs for budgeting purposes.
  • Supports ongoing training, and direction to team members.
  • Completes benefit deductions for payroll files.
  • Completes complex billing processes.
  • Reconcile financial statements.
  • Participates in other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibility 

The Global Compensation and Benefits Officer has no supervisory responsibilities.

Accountability 

Reports Directly To: Director – Global Total Rewards 

Works Directly With: Global Human Resources, Global Talent and other People, Strategy and Technology team members; Corporate Finance; Global Regional Directors and Teams, etc. 

Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders 

Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. We are committed to actively engaging communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects. 

Minimum Qualifications & Transferable Skills 

  • 3+ years of benefits and payroll or finance administration experience; focus on human resources operations or total rewards and benefits programs preferred.
  • Strong IT skills including macros in Excel and working within a variety of IT systems.
  • High level of attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent time management and prioritization, ability to handle interruptions and switch tasks easily and effectively.
  • Ability to provide advanced-level administrative support.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with highly evolved interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated history of superior customer service, sensitivity to team members’ personal situations, and the ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage complex, multi-step projects and procedures consistently.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Familiarity with employee benefit/wellness/compensation program designs, as well as U.S. labor/benefit laws and employer compliance requirements preferred.
  • Proven experience and intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suites.
  • HIPAA compliance training or certification preferred.
  • Multilingual especially in French, Spanish or Arabic preferred.
