Global Relations at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has an opening for a Global Relations Campus Liaison.
Global Relations facilitates institutional agreements between the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and other universities, governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, and private corporations. These agreements create an environment where innovation can move freely across geopolitical, cultural, disciplinary, and academic borders. In addition, they offer a variety of services to all members of the campus community who are engaging on a global scale. Learn more about Global Relations . Primary Position Function/Summary:
Plan, coordinate and execute designated campus-wide programmatic activities for Global Relations in support of global strategies and engagement between Illinois and its international partners.
Statement of Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee Global Relations campus programs, including outreach activities such as Global Relations Quarterly Series, training workshops, and celebration breakfasts by coordinating global expertise to create a global engagement and conversation for the internal campus community.
- Coordinate all aspects of virtual and in-person international delegation visits based on strategic goals of the visits and areas of interest, including pre-arrival planning, activities while international delegations are on campus and post-visit follow-ups. Work in collaboration with the university colleges, departments, and units to ensure maximum impact. Act as escort for distinguished international visitors, including diplomatic and foreign service personnel, and delegations.
- Organize and oversee events related to campus strategic partnerships, emerging partnerships, and university signature programs (e.g., Illinois-Birmingham ‘BRIDGE’ Strategic Partnership, Kyushu-Illinois Strategic Partnership, Fulbright Program), including but not limited to joint academic seminars, symposiums, and information sessions to increase visibility of the partnerships and promote international opportunities for campus stakeholders.
- Manage all aspects of travel related activities for Director for Global Relations, Associate Chancellor and Vice Provost for Global Affairs and Strategies and other outgoing university delegation members, including preparation of travel dossiers, international protocol guides and international travel arrangements.
- Manage evaluation process through data collection and interpretation and make recommendations for programmatic improvement, future strategies, and the university’s global engagement footprint. Design, create, and update intake forms for global engagement data collection purposes. Update the interactive map for global partnerships and create reports on a regular basis.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- One (1) year of education, training, and/or work experience in a position involving global affairs or international engagement. (Note: Master’s degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)
- Demonstrated cultural experience while studying, living, or working internationally.
- Demonstrated experience in event planning or management.
Preferred: (Successful candidates will have):
- Experience working for a university and/or international office.
- A valid driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Candidate needs to be responsible, reliable, able to work independently and with a team, and have a positive attitude and flexibility in a fast-paced work environment.
- Candidate must be detail oriented, has good written and oral communication and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, presentation and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Strong intercultural communication skills to effectively work with acumen and diplomacy with a variety of international partners and visitors.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate major programs and activities.
- Demonstrated ability to work with international audiences and campus units/departments.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION:
This is a full-time 100% Civil Service Program Coordinator position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date. Salary will be determined based on the candidate’s education, experience, skills, and internal equity considerations. The minimum salary for this position is $51,350.00.
Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
Civil Service employees may earn up to 28 days of vacation leave per year, depending on length of service. The University offers 11 annual paid holidays , 12 cumulative sick leave days, plus an additional 13 non-cumulative sick leave days, if needed, each year. Health insurance is available to employees (with the option to purchase coverage for spouse and dependents), required participation in State Universities Retirement System (SURS), with several options for participation in additional retirement plans.
