Present in 26 countries with an operational budget of over 100 million Swiss francs, Tdh works with local and international partners to develop and implement projects in the field which improve the daily lives of over four million children and their families in the fields of health, Access to Justice and Migration but also protection and emergency. This commitment is financed by individual and institutional support, with administrative costs kept to a minimum.   

 

Mission : 

The Global Safeguarding Advisor based in Lausanne reports to the Head of the Child Protection Sector in HQ and is a member of the Child Protection Transversal Expertise team in Terre des hommes (Tdh). The function conducts its activity within the protection mandate of the sector through providing expertise on Safeguarding and aligning its work with the other domains of expertise within the sector, namely Mental Health Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), Case Management (CM), Participation and Empowerment and Child Rights and Business (CRB).

 

The position acts as the global technical lead of Tdh in the field of Safeguarding in front of internal and external stakeholders. She/he leads and supports the development of technical interventions aimed at strengthening the approach, culture and the prevention and response mechanisms on safeguarding within Tdh and amongst partners, collaborators, and other external stakeholders.

 

The Global Safeguarding Advisor is in charge of ensuring the Tdh global safeguarding interventions, policy and procedures are aligned with the international standards, adequately disseminated and well-known across the institution at the global, regional, and local level.

 

 

Main responsibilities : 

·       Always acts as a thematic reference in in the field of safeguarding global expertise and on projects and/or contracts with a safeguarding component.

·       Act as Tdh’s HQ expert in the domain of Safeguarding in front of external stakeholders and partners and as a Coordinator for all project/contracts on Safeguarding (UEFA, IOC, IGF, etc).

·       As part of the global Child Protection team, provides technical guidance to operations (Portfolios and Programmes & Expertise’s), delegations and technical specialists to support them in ensuring that the organizational ethical and safe-guarding standards are integrated and implemented across Tdh interventions, in line with internal policies’ provisions.

·       Draft and periodically review the Tdh’s Safeguarding policy and its procedures integrating the highest requirements according to international standards and best practices in collaboration with the Ethics and Compliance department.

·       Ensure its proper dissemination at all levels within Tdh, in collaboration with and through supporting all the relevant departments in charge of ensuring its implementation such as the Operations department, HR, Communications, Ethics and Compliance and the General Directorate.

·       Assist portfolios to periodically assess safeguarding risks and setting safeguarding measures to prevent and mitigate risks on an annual basis in line with Tdh’s Safeguarding procedures.

·       Facilitate learning, training, and competency development within the organization in the domain of safeguarding, in relation to all staff, volunteers, collaborators and partners and other external stakeholders.

·       Promote new and innovative solutions, best practices and generate learning in the domain of Safeguarding.

·       Contributes to the Child Protection Sector’s development of thematic approaches and methodologies that are specific to her/his area of expertise as well as to the other CP domains.

Salary :

·       Salary between CHF 7’000.- and CHF 7’500.- gross x 13 depending on the level of experience.

 

Profile :  

·       Master’s degree in the field of social work, international relations, international development, social innovation.

·       Training in Child Rights, Child Protection, Safeguarding, PCM.

·       Knowledge on Tdh’s Child Protection Programming and Tdh’s Safeguarding Policy is an asset.

·       10 years of experience in the humanitarian and/or international development sectors, working in Protection programmes.

·       Experience on the field with Tdh is an asset.

·       Min 7 years proven experience in the field of safeguarding (prevention, awareness raising, capacity building, reporting and response) and working with children, young people and/or adults who are vulnerable.

·       Min 5 years of experience acting in an advisory role in the field of Child Protection and/or safeguarding. 

·       Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English

·       Microsoft office tools

·       Commits to reducing the risk of abuse and harm by developing a culture of open and informed leadership within the organization and in our work with children and the communities in which we intervene in.
