The role

As part of our in-house legal and governance team you will be a key support for our governance and compliance systems, developing and review agreements for the trading of carbon credits and providing general advice as part of a busy in-house legal and governance team.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Managing training and compliance under our Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL).
  • Providing compliance advice related to our AFSL and the trading of Australian carbon credit units (ACCUs).
  • Developing and implementing systems which support compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations arising from the trading of ACCUs.
  • Providing advice to develop, maintain and enhance systems for client onboarding and KYC.
  • Supporting the establishment and management of key risk management systems relating to ACCU trading and AFSL compliance.
  • Supporting the delivery of key financial services-related strategic projects such as the development of new ACCU sales products, designing and delivering updated compliance monitoring systems and reviewing and updating existing policy frameworks.
  • Supporting management in providing oversight and monitoring of systems and compliance for AFSL, AML/CTF, anti-financial crime and other legal and regulatory obligations.
  • Coordinating with other business units in Climate Friendly to ensure governance document, including policies, standard operating procedures, technical guidelines and templates are regularly reviewed and updated.
  • General advice and support as part of a busy in-house legal and governance team.

About you

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualification in law or similar discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in private practice / in-house (either in carbon or other financial services business).
  • Experience in managing financial services compliance and/or the provision of financial services.
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements.
  • Excellent legal and problem-solving skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience in managing financial services compliance for ACCUs.
  • Experience or interest in carbon farming and nature projects in Australia.
