About the role

We are offering a 12-month contract in Brussels for a self-starter, fluent in English and another EU language, who is eager to learn extensively about the worlds of government affairs and health policy.

The Europe Government Affairs Specialist will serve as a partner to the European organization and support the development and implementation of AbbVie’s government affairs approach to the EU pharmaceutical strategy that accelerate patient access, contribute to business goals, and protect AbbVie’s reputation. 

The specialist will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing and reporting on political developments in Brussels, support with the outreach to political stakeholders and helping with the organization of thought leading events.

Responsibilities

  • Intelligence-gathering: Monitoring of European institutions’ activities, attendance of relevant events/webinars in Brussels, responding to research or intelligence queries from colleagues, etc.
  • Analysis of political developments: Analysis of developments and reporting back to business and cross functional partners through the preparation of internal notes, reports and presentations to provide strategic counsel to the European organization on the political and policy trends that may impact patient access or capacity to innovate.
  • Outreach: Support the organization, preparation and tracking of external engagement meetings. Attendance and representation at meetings commensurate with experience.
  • Events: Support with event organization, dealing with logistics and suppliers.
  • Support affiliates: in collaboration with the broader European GA team, fully equip affiliates with resources, policy positions, research, evidence, to support successful policy stakeholder engagement on the EU Pharmaceutical strategy.

Required qualifications

  • Academics: A finished degree. A major or minor in political science, law, economics, pharmacy or medicine is preferable though not essential.
  • Knowledge: Understanding and knowledge of the European institutions and of legislative procedures, ideally demonstrated through first experiences (e.g., internships in the European institutions).
  • Languages & communication: Fluency in English both written and spoken, and at a minimum one other EU languages. Additional languages are a plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with knowledge of emerging communications trends and technologies.
  • Attitude: Well-honed political sensitivities and impeccable integrity. An outcomes-focused, can-do attitude. Eagerness to learn and develop. Team player.
  • IT: Good knowledge of MS Office software package.
