Summary

Save the Children’s Government Relations department in the Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns (PAC) team is responsible for shaping U.S. foreign and domestic policies on key issues impacting children from addressing child nutrition in the U.S. and globally to improving the lives of women and children around the world to responding to humanitarian crises to ensuring all children have access to early childhood education. We also work to ensure U.S. policies are protecting children at the border and are empowering girls around the world.

Our work involves engaging Congress, administration, multilateral agencies, and participating in external coalitions on various issues. We also track and monitor key legislative developments on U.S. and global issues and conduct policy research and follow the budget and appropriations process.

We closely coordinate with our communications and campaigns team across our work.

What You’ll be Doing (Essential Duties & Responsibilities)

  • Conduct policy research for the department related to U.S. government legislative or policy developments on global and domestic issues impacting children
  • Attend congressional hearings, coalition meetings, and other meetings as needed and share notes
  • Research and write content for background briefs, talking points, fact sheets, policy briefs, and communications materials, including social media content across various issues as needed.
  • Assist in preparations and execution of strategic virtual events, including internal and external facing virtual workshops and meetings
  • Attend both internal and external meetings and events and assist in note-taking and follow up of action points (virtual)
  • Contribute to Save the Children’s advocacy efforts on budget and appropriations such as filling out annual congressional request forms
  • Track legislation and upcoming hearings
  • As opportunity arises, participate in virtual hill meetings with other government relations staff
  • Other duties as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Must be an actively enrolled Associate, Bachelor, Master or other post high school education program, or have graduated within 6 months of program start date
  • Possess strong written skills, solid interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Currently eligible to work in the U.S.

Compensation: $17 / hour
