Summary of Job Duties:

The Graduate Assistant will work closely with the Assistant Vice Chancellor (AVC) for Strategic Projects & Initiatives in the Division of Student Affairs, contributing to the execution of projects and initiatives that align with divisional priorities and objectives. The role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, including students, faculty, administration, staff, alumni, and external partners. Works twenty hours/week in office between 8 am to 5 pm when classes are in session.
General Duties:
Assist with numerous projects vital to the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs.
Participate as a member on several University/Divisional Committees.
Assist the AVC for Strategic Projects & Initiatives with administrative tasks.
Identify projects to develop and strengthen specific student affairs areas of special interest.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Other duties as assigned.
Professional Development Initiatives:
Serve on the Professional Development committee and tasks related to the goals of the committee.
Assist with the Division of Student Affairs staff engagement activities and trainings.
Assist with the creation of opportunities that development staff across all types of work dimensions (operational, professional, manager/leader).
Assist with AVC engagement with student affairs regional and national associations.
Undergraduate Student Engagement and Involvement:
Assist with presenting and coordinating the campus Belonging Initiative, including supervision of undergraduate belonging ambassadors’ activities and presentations.
Assist with teaching UNIV1001 University Perspectives, 1st-year experience seminar 1 credit courses.
Assist with the coordination of the National Undergraduate Fellows Program.
Assist with the First Generation initiative and First Scholars Network.
Student Affairs Graduate and Professional Student Engagement and Involvement:
Coordinate the Graduate Assistant professional development series including orientation, on-boarding, transition, and various initiatives.
Assist with the creation of a graduate and professional student engagement incentive program.
Coordinate GA recognition and community building events, a mentoring program for graduate and professional students.
Assist in developing, coordinating a marketing strategy for Graduate Assistant Day, including the updating the website and creating social media campaign.
Collaborate with directors within the Division of Student Affairs for open positions.
Coordinate and help obtain available resources for prospective GA candidates.
Serve as the main contact for candidates through the Graduate Assistant email account.
Oversee the Graduate Assistant formal and informal application process.
Coordinate the GA Day and the ongoing year-round process.
Assessment:
Develop and coordinate assessment surveys for involvement and engagement.
Assist the Student Affairs Development Office with scholarship review and the Office of Student Activities with homecoming court applications.
Assist with projects by doing library-based research, web-based research, and benchmarking.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university

  • Enrollment in the Graduate College at the University of Arkansas

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in student activities, leadership, student organizations
