Join Our Team as Graduate Consultant – Water Quality and Make a Difference!

Your main focus will be to attend and investigate water pollution incidents; undertake
field-based monitoring and collect environmental samples for laboratory analysis across the
Southern Water region.
35 hours per week; 9am until 5pm, five days per week (Monday to Friday), alongside a
requirement to be on a standby rota, 1 week in 6, for weekend/public holiday and evening work.
Overtime paid for instructed works during standby periods, all this will be planned in advance
for you!
More details about the role:
- Attending and investigating water pollution incidents across the Southern Water region
- Completing field monitoring works including water quality measurements and sampling
- Completing data entry after collecting data in the field
- Technical report writing in response to water pollution incidents, time limited in
accordance with client requirements - Maintaining all equipment needed for site and maintain cleanliness of vehicle to a high
standard and inform line manager if new equipment is needed - Providing accurate and timely information to line management
About you:
- Degree in a Biological or Environmental Sciences discipline
- Understanding of water chemistry and the indicative parameters
- A full clean UK driving licence
- Experience in scientific fieldwork, and an enthusiasm for working outdoors in all weathers
- Competent user of Microsoft Outlook, Excel & Word
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail
- Able to work independently and as part of a team following precise protocols
- Motivated, friendly and confident interacting with clients
- Experience of aquatic macro-invertebrate sampling and aquatic macro-invertebrate
identification skills to Family level would be beneficial - GIS skills desirable
- Understanding of the role of regulators such as the Environment Agency
- Laboratory analysis in environmental monitoring, and environmental compliance
