So, join us and power the future of energy.About the roleThis role is based within our Customer Connections Team. This is the department that connects customers – such as data centres, battery storage projects, offshore wind farms, transport networks and solar farms – to the electricity transmission network.It’s a collaborative effort, and at any one time there are between 300-400 people working within the department. Their expertise includes: construction, project management, commercial, analytical, account management, communications, power system engineering and feasibility engineering.The connections process is key to delivering the capacity needed for an efficient and renewable transmission network and we need to deliver an increasing number of highly complex and exciting new projects. In this role you would play a crucial role in enabling us to do this.You will join the Data Product Team in Customer Connections’ Digital and Data function. The team develops solutions like Data Products, CRM, and ConnectNow, leveraging advanced Data Mesh Framework and Data Fabric technology. These solutions provide benefits to customers and the business.Your role will involve contributing to the team’s efforts in developing innovative solutions to tackle the challenges of transitioning to net zero. You will need a solid grasp of technical, stakeholder, and commercial aspects to successfully implement data-driven solutions in our day-to-day operations.Your key accountabilities will include:

  • You will have the opportunity to build data pipelines, products, machine learning/AI models or reporting solutions.
  • Working with a creative team, you will explore ways to use data and digital tools to support the daily operations of Customer Connections.
  • You will translate ideas into data products or features, gaining experience in agile methodologies and task breakdown.
  • Hands-on experience will be gained by working with various data and digital tools such as Snowflake, Python, Data Ops, and PowerBI.
  • You will gather requirements from business teams to identify digital and data opportunities.
  • Developing entrepreneurial skills, you will pitch your ideas and solutions to the business.

*Please be aware this would be your permanent role that you would go into after the Graduate Scheme has finished.Our Graduate ProgrammeAs you’ll be joining our 18-month graduate programme, you’ll have a tailored development pathway to support you as you develop a wide range of leadership, business, and technical skills. You’ll attend in-person and virtual development sessions throughout your programme to equip you with the essential skills required, as you begin your career at National Grid. We’re committed to the personal development of our colleagues so as well as the support from your line manager as you navigate your new role, you’ll also have access to 121 coaching and a mentor, from a previous cohort to help you transition from campus to corporate life.All graduates complete the core development programme to develop key skills such as how to make an impact, giving feedback and presentation skills. Aligned to our IT pathway you’ll develop your IT technical skills including AGILE and Scrum. You’ll also gain important insights in engineering and electricity to help broaden your understanding of our business and industry.We believe in the importance of getting as much on-the-job experience as possible and to do this, you will complete three 6-month placements, across the UK, designed to deepen your understanding of your speciality but to also broaden your knowledge of our business. At the end of your 18-month programme you’ll return to your initial placement area to kickstart your superpowered career.What you’ll need to applyYou’ll need to achieve a minimum 2:2 in a Computer Science or Data Science discipline (a similar quantitative STEM field such as Engineering, Mathematics along would still be eligible if there is the ability to demonstrate programming skills and digital/data solution experience). It doesn’t matter when you graduated or if you are currently working towards your qualification. We just need you to be eager to apply your knowledge in a real-world setting.You’ll need flexibility to travel within role and throughout your rotations as required.To be eligible to apply for this role, candidates must be able to demonstrate that they will have the legal right to work in the UK for the duration of the graduate programme.
