Safe Steps is the only 24/7, family violence response centre in Victoria, providing a “state-wide entry point” for victim-survivors of domestic and family violence. Services include information and referral, crisis response, specialist family violence risk assessment, safety planning, Webchat, and access to supported crisis accommodation.
Our vision is safety, support and respect for all victim-survivors of domestic and family violence.
Our practice is trauma-informed and guided by evidence. We provide services to all victim-survivors and recognise that most of our work is dedicated to the needs of women and children which reflects the gendered nature of domestic and family violence.
The Grant Manager is responsible for building a healthy and engaged donor and grant pipeline to support the work of Safe Steps.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build a healthy and engaged donor and grant pipeline to support the work of Safe Steps, including managing a database of prospective funders.
- Raise additional revenue for Safe Steps through dedicated and strategic grants and engagement with philanthropy and other fundraising mechanisms.
- Conduct thorough research to identify and monitor potential grant, tender and other funding opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and other funding sources.
- Lead, write, contribute to and coordinate grant submissions and funding proposals.
- Oversee end to end grant processes including maintaining accurate records, budgets, acquittals and reporting.
- Support the Group Director Business Growth in developing new relationships with funders and philanthropists.
- Prepare presentations for donors and other stakeholders to the promote the work of Safe Steps.
- Represent Safe Steps at meetings and other events to increase the awareness of the organisation.
- Develop strong, positive, and professional relationships with funders and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to the awareness raising of Safe Steps in the funder community and increase engagement across a variety of channels, including social media and online content creation for funders.
- Engage and build strong relationships with key internal stakeholders to support and contribute to increased grant application success.
- Support the broader business growth strategy by aligning team efforts to support the organisation enhance their grant writing skills and contributions and fostering cross portfolio collaboration.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA – Essential
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a related field at a senior level
- Experience in successfully managing a grant portfolio.
- Relevant qualification in Philanthropy, Business, Public Administration.
- Demonstrated high level written communication skills and ability to communicate in various writing styles, including experience in the preparation of funding submissions.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, written and verbal.
- Demonstrated capacity to develop and maintain systems to manage dynamic work priorities, reporting and analysis of trends and results.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve income targets.
- Proven experience in successful grant submissions
- Sound financial management skills – the experience in financial projections, budget setting, budget management and acquittals
- Significant understanding of monitoring and evaluation frameworks, practices and impact reporting.
- Demonstrated end-to-end project management knowledge and experience.
- Proven experience developing partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Willingness to commit to the living expression of Safe Steps values; Integrity, Diversity and Empowerment
- A current Working with Children Check or willingness to acquire one.
- Willingness to undergo a National Police Check

- FIA Code Course highly desirable
- Experience in utilising donor and grant management software
- Experience in promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity within an organisation.
- Understanding of the unique challenges faced by priority groups including the LGBTIQ+ community and strategies to address them.
