Description of the workplace

Join the cutting-edge of neurodegeneration research with the world-renowned BioFINDER team at Lund University. As a global leader in studies of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases, we’re now seeking a passionate Grant Manager to help drive our groundbreaking work forward. Our research aims to improve the diagnostic work-up, and ultimately the treatment, of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. As a grant manager you will be joining an internationally leading team of neuroscientists and clinical researchers, who are at the forefront of research on these diseases. Your experience in grant management will advance our innovative and impactful projects even further, making a genuine difference for patients, caregivers and society. The research group, Clinical Memory Research (the BioFINDER team), is led by Professor Oskar Hansson and is located at the Biomedical center (BMC) in Lund. You can read more about our research here.

Work tasks and responsibilities

We are looking for a Grant Manager with relevant professional experience to make a significant contribution at all levels of the project lifecycle including identification of suitable funding calls (national and international), project application, project management and reporting, i.e., both pre-award and post-award. You will routinely interact with scientists, administrative and legal staff. In short, you will have a central role in connecting different stakeholders in this environment and from this position be involved in designing diverse center activities. You are expected to have excellent communication skills, and a strong ability to interact with other researchers and to contribute to the common goals of the group.

Pre-award tasks:

  • Consulting with Principal Investigators to identify challenging ideas and innovative opportunities.
  • Research, identify and help prioritize grant opportunities which can fuel impactful projects in the field of neurodegenerative diseases and in its translation into clinical practice and societal benefits.
  • Assist researchers in both medium and larger national and international consortia project proposal development (interpretation of call text, navigating the respective call’s application portal, proposal writing, budget preparation, justification, layout, supporting material, proposal submission process)
  • Coach and advise researchers to apply for research funding, in particular from prominent funding bodies like the Knut & Alice Wallenberg Foundation, the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) and ERC.

Post-award tasks:

  • Financial management in terms of collaborating with finance officer at the Departmental Office in preparing budgets and follow-ups on expenditure, guiding researchers through the interpretation of various funding bodies financial requirements, and handling invoices.
  • Prepare information and data for the Lund University Current Research Information System (LUCRIS) to comply with LU guidelines for annual reports of research activities according to funder’s requests.
  • Assist individual researchers with project reports (both scientific and financial) including help with preparing project presentations and interpreting financial regulations.
  • Internal and external communication with BioFINDER members and other stakeholders, liaise with funding agencies, interact with the Faculty of Medicine, Region Skåne hospital and Lund University research services.
  • Maintain strong relationships with grantors and foundations.
  • Track and analyze grant performance to optimize our fundraising strategy.

Other tasks within the research group may also occur.

Qualifications

The following is required for the position:

  • PhD degree within the Medical-, or Natural Sciences or related disciplines
  • Documented experience in scientific writing
  • Excellent writing skills in English
  • Experience of the full lifecycle of research projects, including grant writing, project management, financial and scientific reporting, audits and project closure preferably from main national and international funding bodies (e.g., Vetenskapsrådet, ERC, Knut & Alice Wallenberg Foundation
  • Excellent collaboration skills, a service-oriented mindset and a genuine enthusiasm for engaging with researchers
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize between different tasks independently while meeting external deadlines
  • Passion for our mission of fighting against neurodegenerative diseases

The following is meritorious for the position:

  • Previous experience as main or co-applicant of a large grant

Terms of employment
The employment is a full-time permanent position. Preliminary starting date is January 2025, or as agreed. A probationary period of up to 6 months may be applied.
