About us

Mnemonic is an international non-profit organisation founded in Berlin in 2018. Our mission is to promote human rights and accountability through the preservation and verification of open-source digital information.

We are human rights defenders, lawyers, archivists, journalists, technologists, and open-source investigators dedicated to preserving, memorialising, and adding value to publicly available information related to human rights violations. We use our unique position as a cross-sectorial, cross-disciplinary organisation to help human rights defenders hold power to account.

Mnemonic aims to:

1) Archive digital information to ensure that potential evidence is not lost and remains accessible and usable for future accountability mechanisms.

2) Train human rights defenders to maximize the impact of digital information and empower those working with it.

3) Reduce the impact of harmful content moderation policies by social media companies and governments by providing comprehensive, reliable data surrounding the takedowns of human rights documentation on social media platforms.
