PRIMARY OBJECTIVES

Within the parameters of our constitution, service philosophy and the policy framework established by the Board, and under the direction and supervision of the Group Director Business Growth the Grants and Philanthropy Officer is responsible for building a healthy and engaged donor and grant pipeline to support the work of Safe Steps.

  • Leading cross-organisation grant submissions
  • Fostering strong relationships with relevant trusts, bodies, and foundations to support the work of Safe Steps

ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT

Safe Steps is the only 24/7, family violence response centre in Victoria, providing a “state-wide entry point” for victim-survivors of domestic and family violence. Services include information and referral, crisis response, specialist family violence risk assessment, safety planning, Webchat, and access to supported crisis accommodation.

Our vision is safety, support, and respect for all victim-survivors of domestic and family violence.

Our practice is trauma-informed and guided by evidence. We provide services to all victim-survivors and recognise that most of our work is dedicated to the needs of women and children which reflects the gendered nature of domestic and family violence.

Our research and advocacy are informed by our practice and promotes the voices and diverse experiences of victim-survivors. We advocate to create systemic change and effective pathways for victim survivors from crisis to safety and recovery. We are courageous, courageous, feminist, empowering, inclusive, respectful, and reflective in all that we do. Safe Steps employs more than 100 full-time staff, part-time staff, volunteers, and students.

The Grant and Philanthropy Officer is based at the Safe Steps head office in North Melbourne, however, working across all sites maybe required.

The Grant and Philanthropy Officer is expected to uphold organisation’s policies and procedures as well as the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing and Health and Human Services Standards, which include the following obligations:

  • To respect client confidentiality
  • To obtain consent for the disclosure of information about a client
  • To inform any client who wishes to make a complaint about the organisation of their right to do so, and to assist them to initiate a complaint.

Safe Steps’ locations and unlisted telephone numbers may not be disclosed to any other person except in accordance with service procedures. The locations and unlisted telephone numbers of any high security refuges may not be disclosed to any other person other than in accordance with the instructions of each such service.

KEY RESPONSIbiLITIES

  • Build a healthy and engaged donor and grant pipeline to support the work of Safe Steps
  • Raise additional revenue for Safe Steps through dedicated and strategic grants and engagement with philanthropy
  • Lead the development and implementation of plans/initiatives to increase philanthropic revenue
  • Monitor grants opportunities
  • Lead, write, contribute to and coordinate grant submissions
  • Write reports and prepare acquittals for funders
  • Support the Group Director Business Growth in developing new relationships with funders and philanthropists
  • Provide research support to the Growth team in relation to potential funders and donors.
  • Develop funding proposals and presentations for donors and stakeholders
  • Develop strong, positive, and professional relationships with funders and external stakeholders
  • Engage and build strong relationships with key internal stakeholders to support and contribute to Fund application success
  • Utilise Safe Steps’ social media presence for grant and philanthropic opportunities.
  • Report regularly on grants and philanthropy activity
  • Support the broader business growth strategy by supporting the development of a structure and framework for grants, Trusts, and Foundations engagement.

CAPABILTIES AND BEHAVIOURS

  • Ability to think strategically about the role of philanthropy and grants within the organisation and execute operationally.
  • Strong relationship management skills with a proven ability to build partnerships with key stakeholders at all levels.
  • The ability to inspire others and contribute to the cause of an organisation.
  • A high level of influencing skills and the ability to negotiate to achieve shared outcomes.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a related field at a senior level
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Proven experience in successful grant submissions
  • Financial management skills – the experience in financial projections, budget setting, budget management and acquittals
  • Experience working directly with trusts and foundations preferred.
  • Experience writing grant applications and/or funding submissions.
  • Proven experience developing partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience/confidence presenting/pitching to potential donors.
  • Strong research skills.

Highly Desirable Experience

  • Relevant qualification in philanthropy, fundraising or marketing.
  • FIA Code Course highly desirable
  • Experience in utilising donor and grant management software
  • Proven experience in successful grant submissions
