The Redlich Horwitz Foundation (RHF) seeks an experienced and collaborative individual to join our team as a Grants Manager. The Foundation, based in New York City but serving children and families throughout New York State, works to see that families in NY are together, happy and healthy, and free from over-surveillance, regulation and policing by the child welfare system.
THE ROLE
The Redlich Horwitz Foundation (RHF) seeks an individual with a commitment to strengthening communities impacted by the child welfare system to join its team as grants manager. The position will also serve as a strong conduit for shared learning within and across the foundation. This position is hybrid, with some in-person days at our New York City based office. Limited travel to attend convenings and site visits will be required. Reporting to the executive director, the grants manager will work collaboratively with the entire RHF team including the advocacy officer, program officers, senior advisor and foundation trustees to develop and implement grantmaking strategies in New York. Candidates with experience in philanthropic organizations and those with lived experience with the child welfare system are all encouraged to apply.
The grants manager will:
Administrative & Communications Support
- Provide general and administrative support for the office and team members, including logistics, scheduling, ordering supplies and liaising with various stakeholders related to foundation business.
- Support the preparation and coordination of quarterly board of trustees’ meetings.
- Coordinate with and pay vendors including phone provider, internet provider, water delivery, business cards and others.
- Coordinate and support internal and external communications activities, including newsletters, managing social media sites and reports.
Grants Management
- Coordinate with the RHF team to draft grant agreements, maintain grant records, and set up payment and reporting schedules.
- Maintain grantee pipeline reports and internal reporting documents.
- Conducting due diligence on potential grantees of interest and drafting organizational overviews that include program descriptions, management, financial review, and preparing summary sheets and internal reports of recommendations.
- Maintain grant database and take the lead in telling RHF staff when reports are due, tracking which reports as they come in, and when the next payment is due.
- Track grant impact and grantee progress and news; draft internal reports on outcomes and insights. Support program evaluations efforts as needed in partnership with RHF or eternal consultants.
Research & Knowledge Management
- Act as the “knowledge manager” for the foundation, keeping abreast of new contributions to the field of child welfare in NY and more broadly. Conduct research using a variety of external resources (e.g., websites, online publications, Google Scholar, and journal articles.
- Summarize research findings in written documents, databases, or presentations.
Event Coordination

Overseeing tasks related to the event planning logistics when RHF hosts a convening. Tasks include coordinating with vendors, booking hotel rooms and event spaces, and more dependent on the event.
QUALITIES & QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have:
- A minimum of 3 years of work experience in administrative or grants management or philanthropy with a track record of successfully achieving objectives and impact.
- Basis level knowledge about the child welfare system or other carceral systems and its impact on children and families. Lived experience with public systems is a plus.
- Project planning experience with a track record of successfully executing complex projects working with multiple team members.
- Proactive, strategic problem-solver with exceptional organizational skills that reflect an ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks with accuracy, attention detail and exceptional follow through.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to be a highly engaged listener and learner.
- Excellent computer and research skills, including Microsoft Office, G-Suite, and grants administration software.
- Limited travel outside of NYC to conferences, convenings or meetings as needed.
The salary range for this position is based on experience, Grants Manager range: $70,000 – $80,000. RHF offers a benefits package that includes dental, health and vision insurance, and a 401K retirement plan with employer matching after one year of service. This position is hybrid, with required commute to our New York City office.
