Village Enterprise intends to impact the lives of 20 million people living in extreme poverty by 2030. Over the next three years, we plan to significantly increase the number of households we serve (from 24,000/year to over 105,000/year) and expand into new countries. POSITION OVERVIEW
Are you passionate about ending extreme poverty in sub-Saharan Africa? Do you have more than 2 years of experience in grant management and securing funds from bilateral donors, multilateral donors, and foundations? Are you looking for a dynamic role in a small and high-performing team where you have the opportunity to support the organization in reaching new heights? If so, you might be our new Grants Manager!
The Grants Manager will be play an active role in supporting the Development team to identify and secure new funding from institutional donors as well as manage current grants to ensure compliance to donors. Reporting to our Director of Grants, you will work closely with the Development team across the US and East Africa. In the role of Grants Manager, you will support institutional fundraising efforts, manage reporting and compliance for the diverse grants portfolio, and drive innovations in our grants management systems to cultivate a culture of continuous growth. Success for a Grants Manager is marked by growing the grants portfolio and managing organized systems for seamless grant management. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
I. Institutional Fundraising Support
○ Research on prospective funders
■ Conduct research and support prospecting efforts for relevant prospects and opportunities, both restricted and unrestricted, in alignment with Village Enterprise’s strategic interests.
■ Actively work with Director of Grants to determine the suitability of funding opportunities for Village Enterprise-based strategic plan and programmatic needs.
● Complete Opportunity Details Forms for opportunities deemed viable by the team.
■ Regularly check FundsforNGOs, Devex, and other key opportunity sites to identify strategic and relevant grant opportunities.
■ Conduct background research on potential funders in alignment with Village Enterprise’s strategic interests and create Prospect Profiles.
■ Carry out targeted research for specific strategic initiatives as defined by the organizational strategy and fundraising goals (e.g. gender, youth, climate and conservation related opportunities).
○ Proposals
■ Engage in discussions with the Director of Grants on strategy and approach to specific proposals to position Village Enterprise well.
■ Organize go / no go meetings to determine viability and alignment of identified opportunities with relevant individuals as needed.
■ Support the proposal development process for restricted and unrestricted grants as guided by members of the Development team.
■ Depending on workload and availability, lead proposal development process on identified opportunities. This may occur if competing opportunities are identified and the Director of Grants is unable to lead on multiple proposals.
● Coordinate with relevant team members on programs, finance, operations, and M&E to ensure that proposals are well designed and satisfy donor requirements.
II. Institutional Grants Management
○ In partnership with the Director of Grants, support ad hoc requests from donors for additional materials, information, or communications requests.
○ Responsible for preparing institutional donor reporting in partnership with the Director of Grants to ensure timely submission and compliance with donor requirements.
■ Liaise with members of the Program, Operations, Finance, and M&E teams to collect relevant information for reports
■ Keep the reporting calendar in Salesforce up to date, ensuring that all reporting deadlines are met.
■ Prepare high-quality reports in accordance with contractual requirements for submission to donors.
III. Institutional Salesforce Database Management
○ Keep opportunities up to date in the Salesforce database, including the prospecting/ proposal stage, possible amount, etc.
■ Create new accounts for new funders
■ Update meetings notes
■ Ensure Salesforce accounts are linked to Box accounts
■ Regularly update Box accounts with new research, reports, and proposals
○ Lead on managing the database and following up with other team members to ensure that all opportunities are regularly updated and meeting notes are uploaded.
○ Work closely with Salesforce Administrator to coordinate Salesforce improvements for the Development team.
IV. General Development Support
○ Participate actively in development and staff meetings; prepare materials as needed.
○ Prepare reports, executive summaries, project briefs, and related materials for institutional giving as appropriate.
○ Perform other duties as requested by senior members of the Development team, including Vice President of Partnerships, Director of Grants, and Director of Business Development.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND CAPABILITIES
The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:
● Self-motivated and value-driven individual who shares Village Enterprise’s organizational values of Ubuntu, innovation, passion, integrity, and sustainability.
● 2-3 years’ experience in institutional fundraising, with a proven track record in raising funds from bi and multi-lateral donors and foundations.
● Experience in international development, with a preference for experience in sub-Saharan Africa. This might include experience living and working in Africa and/or a Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs, International Development, or a related field.
● Excellent and demonstrated written communication and organizational skills.
In addition, the following is desirable:
● Experience in institutional fundraising and development at an international NGO.
● Good knowledge of Salesforce.
● Based on the East Coast US.
