Summary
The OneCanopy Grants Manager has the exciting opportunity to build our grants program from the ground up, with a strong focus on capital and operational grants. This position will be responsible for leading and managing the entire portfolio of grant funds and applying for $3M+ in grants annually. This includes comprehensive research, proposal development, submission, and facilitating the grant process from pre-award to post-award including monitoring, budgetary oversight, reporting, efficient project management, and compliance. This pivotal role ensures the financial sustainability and expansion of OneCanopy’s mission and initiatives by effectively acquiring and managing grant funds. The ideal candidate will showcase exceptional proficiency in writing, extensive research capabilities, comprehension of grant application procedures, diverse funding sources, and strong project management skills.
Responsibilities
- Build the OneCanopy grants program from the ground up with a strong focus on capital and operational grants.
- Lead the development of the organization’s grant-seeking strategy.
- Identify and research potential grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations, corporations, and other relevant sources.
- Stay up to date with funding trends, guidelines, and eligibility criteria for various grants.
- Advise OneCanopy staff on requirements for proposals. Establish timelines to meet critical deadlines especially for collaborative proposals or proposals with sub recipients. Prioritize proposal workload as needed.
- Write compelling, structured, and articulate grant proposals that align with the organization’s mission and objectives. Develop budgets and financial justifications that accurately reflect program needs and costs.
- Maintain a master calendar of grant opportunities, including deadline dates and required materials.
- Develop strategies and written content to solicit large-scale funding from relevant organizations and individuals.
- Submit grant applications within deadlines and maintain accurate records of submitted proposals, responses, and outcomes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather data, stories, and impact metrics that strengthen grant proposals.
- Cultivate positive relationships with grant-making organizations, attend networking events and workshops when appropriate, and engage in stewardship activities to express gratitude and maintain connections with existing funders.
- Engage with partner organizations to facilitate collaborative grant seeking opportunities.
- Ensure adherence to ethical standards and guidelines in grant writing and submission.
- Create communications support materials, including templates, boilerplate language and other documents to be used by OneCanopy in fundraising efforts.
- Remain up to date on funding source expectations, compliance requirements, and federal, state, and local grant guidance and regulations.
Requirements
- Academic or experiential background in Environmental Communications, Natural Resources, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted for education.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of proven experience in environmental or conservation-focused grant writing, with a track record of successful grants secured.
- Genuine passion for and experience in the conservation sector and alignment with the organization’s mission and values.
- Demonstrated ability to craft compelling proposals aimed at various sponsors, including federal and state agencies, private foundations and donors, and others.
- Demonstrated understanding of natural resource and conservation issues in the Rocky Mountain region.
- Demonstrated capacity to adapt to evolving priorities and goals and produce quality materials under tight timelines in a start-up environment.
- High level of organization and attention to detail.
- Excellent research, grammar, spelling, and proofreading skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and compelling manner.
- Proficient with grant management software, fundraising databases, and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Proficiency in financial management, including budgeting and financial analysis related to grant proposals.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment, collaborating with colleagues and partners to achieve shared goals.
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional experience in the environmental sector.
- Master’s degree in Conservation, Natural Resources, Business Administration, Marketing, English, or a related field.
- Certified Grant Writer (CGW)
- Demonstrated experience in project management.
This is a six-month remote position with occasional travel to Loveland, CO. Opportunity for extension pending success after six months.
Reports To: Director of Operations & Business Development
Location: Remote with occasional travel to Loveland, CO
Salary Range: $32 – 40k for six months depending on experience.
