UNICEF Refugee Response Office in Poland is recruiting graphic design specialist for specific projects in line with its communications objectives. The Office is seeking to contract a consultant to provide a broad range of professional graphic design services and creative content development services (among all including reports, graphics, occasional cards, design layouts of various materials and development of creative concepts) in the field of humanitarian situations and UNICEF’s activities across Poland.

Major tasks and responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Graphic Designer

Taken the nature of UNICEF work in Poland, the expected deliverables of this cooperation and the way of their delivery is as follows:

  • To provide services in the areas specified below throughout the period of the contract in a timely manner even for short-notice and ad hoc requests depending on the occurring needs of the Communication and Programme Section needs, plans and priorities.
  • Understand and adhere to UNICEF brand guidelines/policies and style guide.
  • Participate in briefings and brainstorming with the Communication and Programme teams in UNICEF.
  • Attend (or participate via conference call) in pre-production briefing on the issues being covered and participate in preparatory research and production planning both thematic and operations.
  • Agree upon a timeline with UNICEF.
  • When the concept is agreed upon, produce high-quality content custom designed for each project (e.g. graphics, infographics, relevant layouts, short animations, graphic designs for websites, posters, roll-ups, brochures and other marketing communication materials).
  • Prepare at least three concepts and produce draft layouts, designs, etc. as relevant, to share with UNICEF for selection.
  • Be available to work on weekends and holidays to address important and urgent assignments.

The Consultant is required to:

  • Creating various design content and working closely with Communication Specialist: covering humanitarian situations, UNICEF’s response and narratives as per specifications of the format, platform, shot listing, etc.
  • Participating in and contributing to the whole creative design services development process including discussion, conceptualization, planning/storyboarding, building narratives, writing production plans, development schedules, editing and final packaging. This will often require working with numerous Staff members and partners.
  • Submitting the deliverables in formats applicable to UNICEF platforms, broadcasters, online news, and social media outlets, as previously agreed with the supervisor.
  • The consultant will not give the content/material or any part thereof, to any third party without the written permission of UNICEF. All components will be the property of UNICEF, and the consultant will not share the same with anyone else.
  • The consultant will not put their own name or logo/emblem on the content / final product. The only organization branding will be UNICEF, if required.
  • Keep in mind culture, gender, ability and other sensitivities as per UNICEF guidelines. The content should be appropriate for diverse audiences and have universal appeal.
  • Ensure effective and efficient provision of services, keep full confidentiality of all aspects of the assignment; manage information flows and follow-up on deadlines and commitments made.
  • Ensure dignity of subjects, particularly in the context of children and vulnerable groups.
  • Be available for several rounds of editing depending on the feedback.
  • Conduct all work independently, in accordance with professional standards. This includes working from their own office and using their own hardware and software equipment.

To qualify as a champion for every child you will have… 

  • Completion of secondary education.
  • At least three (3) years of professional experience in the relevant field (experience in a humanitarian context or with topics regarding the vulnerable groups is preferred), preferably in an international environment.
  • Track record of high-quality graphic design content (proved by a portfolio)
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high quality materials according to specified technical requirements in a past paced environment and changing conditions including short deadlines.
  • Spoken and written fluent knowledge of Polish, and English is required; knowledge of Ukrainian or Russian is an asset.
  • Previous relevant experience of working with a UN Agency, international organizations, international media, or donors is an asset.
