OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
As the only specialized organization with the mandate to support educational policy, planning and management, the UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) plays a unique role within the United Nations system. It supports ministries of education around the world and other key actors to plan and manage education systems through its programmes of training, technical assistance, policy research and knowledge sharing. This position is located in the Communications Cluster under the Knowledge Management and Mobilization team of the UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) in Paris and reports to the Head of the Communications Cluster.
Under the overall authority of the Director, and the direct supervision of the Head of the Communications Cluster, and within the framework of the Institute’s Medium-Term Strategy, the Graphic Designer will support the overall visual and audio communications of the institute, in order to ensure consistent quality standards and a strong visual identity for IIEP and provide specialized support the Institutes various projects.
Long Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide graphic design and desktop publishing (DTP) support to the publications and communications units by producing templates, finalizing the layout of published materials (brochures, flyers, books), creating interactive PDFs, retouching photos, and creating digital design elements such as illustrations, social media graphics, and other digital graphics.
2. Adhere to the visual charter and support its implementation throughout IIEP, including the use of logo and UN accessibility standards.
3. Receive and process specialized printing requests (saddle-stitched brochures, flyers, reports, briefs, etc.) by preparing and printing documents using a Sharp MX-8090 digital press and finisher; Fiery and related hardware for the finalization of documents; as well as pre-press software and other printing technologies.
4. Provide support for audio and video productions, including video interviews, podcasts, livestreaming of events, and short films, including:
- preparation and use of SLR equipment for multi-camera capture in different locations;
- use and installation of specific lighting for video;
- use of two microphones simultaneously;
- editing on Premiere and After Effects software including video and audio corrections as well as green screen capture;
- subtitling in both languages;
- animation of text and/or creation of various visuals;
- preparing and organizing live recordings with two cameras in two languages on Black Magic equipment to retransmit live video streams on streaming platforms;
- audio capture via a digital recorder on different types of microphones and locations to have the best audio quality but also to edit the audio on a specific software to perform the necessary treatments and editing.

5. Photograph official and unofficial events, including in various light conditions with or without flash, and process the photos.
6. Guide IIEP in its technological choices to remain competitive and maintain a digital watch in the following fields: Video, Audio, Photo, and Print.
7. Provide advice and overall support to IIEP colleagues in the areas of DTP/Video/Photo/Audio/Graphics.
COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Completed secondary, technical or vocational education including qualifications in graphic design or related field.
Work Experience
- Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience in graphic design in the field of international development and/or Education.
- Experience in audio-visual production and specifically video editing.
- Experience in producing and printing communications materials such as brochures and short booklets.

BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS
UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc.
The approximate annual starting salary for this post is 51 672 Euro €.
