POSITION SUMMARY

The Green Investment Officer will support the implementation of GTIP’s green investment component in GGGI’s Vietnam country office to originate and design bankable investment projects primarily focusing on the Sustainable Forest Management and Circular Economy. S/he will deliver the following activities:

  • Identification and selection of viable projects,
  • Conduct prefeasibility and bankability assessments,

 

  • Design the partnership engagement plan, project level financing and matchmaking between project developers, investors, and technology providers,
  • Design the investment plan and the usual documentation for investors (tear sheets, information memoranda, etc.), and
  • Investment mobilization.

 

The scope of work will also include engaging with Vietnam officials, stakeholders from the private and financial institutions and initiatives during the project selection process.

This position reports to the GTIP Project Management Unit, with members based in Seoul HQ and Thailand Country Office, and the Vietnam Country Representative and will work in collaboration with the GTIP Vietnam Country Team.

PURPOSE

The Green Investment Officer will have the following tasks and duties:

  • Lead the implementation of the investment component of the GTIP in the Vietnam Country Office, with the Vietnam Country Team.
  • Lead the green investment assessment by selecting bankable project pipelines, develop the business case, investment documentation, identify and analyze project opportunities, competitive strengths and weaknesses of projects and their sponsors.

 

  • Lead the preparation of concept notes and conducts analysis for existing and potential investment opportunities.
  • Assist with and conduct pre-feasibility and bankability assessments for Sustainable Forest Management and Circular Economy with relevant stakeholders.
  • Support the implementation of the Partnership Plan and Tech transfer in Vietnam by engaging with the host and partners, selecting participants, setting up the working program for the first three meetings and project and level fund matchmaking.
  • Design a sound investment approach and conduct a market sounding with target investors.

 

  • Support financing mobilization by facilitating investment negotiation and initial financial commitments.
ENGAGEMENT

The Green Investment Officer will be required to engage actively with relevant stakeholders from the public, private and financial sectors.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with public and private sector counterparts, financial institutions, project developers, banking and multilateral partners and government officials.
  • Engage actively with donors for the implementation and monitoring of activities in Vietnam.

 

  • Coordinate closely with the GTIP Project Management Unit, and all 3 countries’ teams members as needed to facilitate communication and monitoring, build complementary capabilities and stronger program delivery.
DELIVERY

Core competencies and business acumen for this position have been categorized according to the GTIP green investment component requirements.

  • Origination: Investigates, prepares the business case and prepares concept notes for new potential opportunities, interprets term sheets and works with the GTIP team members to draft high-quality investment documentation.
  • Project structuring: Applies specialized finance, business or legal skills to identify and develop commercially viable projects in the Sustainable Forest Management and Circular Economy sectors in Vietnam.
  • Coordination: Organizes analytical work to ensure that deliverables against milestones are provided in a timely manner.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Identify and engage with relevant public and private sector stakeholders, such as private companies, public officials, financial institutions, and commercial lenders, to ensure that the projects adequately align with the Program’s objectives and national needs related to SMEs engaged in the two sectors of focus.
  • Ad-hoc assignments: Carry out other ad hoc assignments in line with GGGI’s mandate and targets for Vietnam related to green investment.
  • Financing mobilization: Coordinate with GGGI colleagues in Vietnam and HQ to support and assist in resource mobilization and investment mobilization.
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced university degree in areas such as international business or economics with further financial / economics training (Master’s in finance or MBA or equivalent), or in areas relevant to Sustainable Forest Management and Circular Economy.
  • Solid understanding of various financial products, debt/equity instruments being used in Vietnam, finance/investment sector. Direct work experience with any of these products will be an advantage.

 

  • Preferred at least 5 years of experience in sustainable finance and bankable project development.
  • Experience working directly with one or more Investment banks/ Private Equity/ multilaterals would be an advantage.
  • Ability to efficiently manage many activities simultaneously and to navigate through complex environments.
  • Experience of working with companies involved in Sustainable Forest Management and/or Circular Economy is preferred.
  • Exceptional candidates without green investment experience with strong convention investment background with the leading global investment firms will be considered.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.

 

  • Oral and written fluency in English.
