The Government of Suriname is undertaking its readiness activities for accessing Green Climate Fund (GCF) resources for addressing climate change. The project will involve strengthening capacity of the Government to access climate finance through an extensive mentoring program for staff members of the Ministry of Spatial Planning and the Environment (the NDA) and staff from other Government Ministries as well as stakeholders from civil society organizations. The activities under this Readiness project will provide important baseline information needed for future decision making on climate change priorities for Suriname.
Tasks and responsibilities:
  • Liaise with ROM and other stakeholders on climate change reporting and GHG estimates in Suriname
  • Organize several workshops to discuss amongst technicians how to improve the collection of GHG data
  • Develop a protocol for updating the GHG emissions for the 6 mains sectors as indicated in the NDC 2020
  • Provide guidelines on how to measure and analyze the GHG emissions
  • Write an updated GHG inventory report for Suriname
  • Ensure the integration of gender consideration into the above-mentioned tasks and project outputs
Candidates Will Be Assessed Against The Following:
Minimum Requirements:   
  • B.Sc. or Master’s Degree in Environment, Climate Change or a related subject 
  • At least 5 years of experience in climate change and GHG inventories
  • Working knowledge of English
  • National of the country or a resident with valid work permit
Technical/Functional Skills:
  • Good analytical  skills and conceptual thinking
  • Experience in preparing and delivering training workshops
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Working experience with different stakeholder groups from government and civil society
  • Good knowledge of NDC, NAP, and GHG inventories related to climate change
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders and present ideas clearly and effectively. 
  • Able to gather and process data and information and report writing
