About the organisation

Jesuit Social Services is a social change organisation working to build a just society where all people can live to their full potential. We reflect on the critical factors shaping our contemporary world; the social, political and economic contexts, and we adapt our practice to work with those most in need.

Since 1977, Jesuit Social Services has provided services to some of the most disadvantaged in our community.

We place a high priority on advocacy and are a leader in policy development and research.

About the role

The Men’s Project is seeking passionate individuals to facilitate workshops and presentations for diverse audiences; including educators, community groups, social workers, and young people.

Competitive remuneration, plus salary packaging benefit, is offered together with ongoing professional and career development as well as opportunities for personal growth.

About the program

The Men’s Project is an initiative of Jesuit Social Services launched in 2017. It provides leadership on the reduction of violence and other harmful behaviours prevalent among boys and men, and builds approaches to improve their wellbeing and keep families and communities safe.

Our vision is for good men, respectful relationships and safe communities.

We will achieve this by:

  • promoting positive change around gender norms and stereotypes and what it means to be a man in the 21st century;
  • learning from and expanding programs that build positive relationship skills and improve the wellbeing of boys and men; and
  • developing innovative ways to stop cycles of violence and harmful behaviour among boys and men.

Current priorities for The Men’s Project include:

  • research to better understand the attitudes and behaviours of boys and young men;
  • developing new early intervention approaches with a focus on community activation and educational settings; and
  • piloting innovative responses working with perpetrators of adolescent family violence.

The Men’s Project builds on Jesuit Social Services’ 45+ years engagement with boys and men in trouble, but it also involves us leading new work to reduce violence, to improve the wellbeing of boys and men, and to keep families and communities safe.

What Jesuit Social Services can offer you:

  • An organisation that lives its values, through its day to day work
  • A welcoming and supportive relational environment
  • A comprehensive Induction and Orientation program
  • Ongoing training and development related to your role
  • Employee assistance program
  • A competitive salary plus salary packaging benefits

About you

This role will suit a candidate with the following skills and experience:

  • A proven record of facilitating groups in a variety of settings
  • Ability to lead workshops on multiple days, including evenings and occasional weekends
  • Knowledge/understanding of the impact of gender norms on behaviour and attitudes and/or ability to quickly develop this understanding.
  • An understanding of issues around men’s health and wellbeing, masculinities, gender equality and the prevention of family and domestic violence including an understanding of the sensitive nature of our work and the need for careful stakeholder engagement and messaging. (Experience related to the field of primary prevention of family violence and/or qualifications in Family Violence prevention or health promotion will be highly regarded).
  • A clear positioning that doesn’t excuse violence and other harmful behaviours in boys and men while taking an approach of genuine care and curiosity towards all boys and men.

A position description is attached.
