Head Biologist

This position report directly to Director and Manager. The professional is responsible to train the Biology & Education assistants and Conservation Interns. The role involves a lot of physical work and office work, keeping records.

General tasks are:

• Teach, supervise and lead Biology & Education Assistants in assigned tasks, they are part of the Biology team.
• Teach, supervise and lead regular volunteers and conservation interns in assigned tasks. We have a policy of giving a high level of participation to volunteers and interns. Biologist must be ready to train, supervise and encourage them to participate in all the projects.
• Implement catalogues of different species, biological inventory.
• Develop the draft of some release paper researchs with all the collected data and help to organized the following release studies per species.
• Develop and implement the terrariums, areas to breed amphibians, insects, snakes and other species for educational purposes.
• Conduct research on native wildlife species, with a focus on conservation strategies.
• Participate in the planning and execution of conservation projects, such as habitat restoration or species reintroduction, camera traps, etc.
• Propose new projects or initiatives that align with our mission to enhance conservation efforts.
• Conduct field surveys to assess the health of local ecosystems and monitor species populations.
• Manage databases for animal records, research data, and environmental monitoring results.
• Provide training and support for volunteers and interns working on conservation initiatives.
• Give lectures about conservations topics to interns and volunteers.
• Develop and present educational materials for workshops, school visits, or community events, in coordination with the Education Coordinator.
• Lead community outreach programs to raise awareness about biodiversity and environmental protection.
• Publish findings from research and conservation projects in scientific journals or reports.
• Prepare grant proposals or reports to secure funding for conservation initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with local and international wildlife regulations and standards.
• Coordinate with your team: the weekly meetings, coordinating day off and activities, and the daily schedule for volunteers and interns. It is imperative that Biologist, respond well to changes because schedules can change at any time and they must be able to maintain positive energy and propose solutions, or be open to changing processes if another leading member manifests a better idea.
• Responsible for the safety of the volunteers and students when they are performing the projects. Enforce health and safety standards of conduct and procedures. Keep the portable first aids kit and radio in all the field visits.
• Biology  team support Caretakers team in general days off or when they are short of personnel.
