Global Fishing Watch is an international, non-profit
organisation committed to advancing ocean governance through
increased transparency. We create and publicly share knowledge
about human activity at sea to enable fair and sustainable use of
our ocean. Our major focus is on commercial fishing because it is
the most widespread human activity at sea, the most impactful on
ocean health, and the most crucial for global livelihoods and food
security. We believe human activity at sea should be common
knowledge in order to safeguard the global ocean commons for the
common good of all.
As the lead of a small and newly established team, the Head,
Finance Business Partnering role is a hands-on position with an
additional focus on devising and implementing a finance business
partnering function that supports Global Fishing Watch’s long-term
growth and success.
Purpose of role
Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the purpose of the
role will be to establish and lead a growing team responsible for
the beginning-to-end financial oversight of our grant
portfolio.
As part of the operations department, the newly created Finance
Business Partnering Team provides strategic, finance-based insight
to internal stakeholders, including the program, fundraising and
operational teams.
The Head, Finance Business Partnering will be responsible for
proposal budgeting, financial monitoring and delivery of data-led
analysis to drive effective decision-making and compliance. Working
closely with internal stakeholders, the role maintains and supports
Global Fishing Watch’s financial policies, systems, controls and
procedures, ensuring they meet current needs and support long-term
organisational resilience, and foster best practices throughout the
organisation.
The Qualified candidate will have a proven track record of
financial grant management, analysis and reporting in a global
organisation, as well as a demonstrated ability to build and
support high functioning teams and develop effective relationships
with non-financial stakeholders.

Global Fishing Watch supports flexible working, so the pattern
of hours may vary according to operational and personal needs. The
position will be part of a global team spanning many different time
zones and so the candidate must be able to accommodate regular
early/late meetings to be able to work effectively. Weekend work
may be required on occasion. The post holder may be required to
undertake regional and international travel. No overtime is
payable.
A compensation range for this position is $110-130K USD for
US-based and €50-70K EUR for EU-based employees. Compensation is
commensurate with experience and will vary depending on the hired
candidate’s country of residence, in accordance with local laws and
regulations. Global Fishing Watch offers pension/retirement, health
and other benefits commensurate with similar level Global Fishing
Watch employees in the country of employment. The position may be a
Global Fishing Watch employee or consultant, depending on the
country of residence.
