Brief Summary of Job Description | The Head Men’s Basketball Coach will work closely with the Director of Athletics in the overall leadership of an NCAA Division II program. This individual will assist in planning, developing, implementing, communicating and administering the goals of this position in order to help fulfill University and Department objectives. Exhibiting behavior that enhances the respect for student-athletes, the athletics program, the University, and yourself in the conduct of your professional responsibilities will be expected. This individual is required to assist in the direction and control of athletics in accordance with NCAA, MIAA, and University rules and regulations. Violation of NCAA, Conference or University rules on the part of Athletic Department personnel may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. The Head Coach is responsible for managing all aspects of the UNK Men’s Basketball program. |
Job Duties | Coaching – communicate and teach the fundamentals and philosophies of the game, recruitment of perspective student athletes, practice and game preparation, arranging team travel and game scheduling; Provide leadership in the development of student athletes in the classroom, on the court and in our community. Monitor eligibility and academic progress of student athletes to ensure eligibility and graduation; Responsible for management of operating budget; including team travel, equipment purchases, staffing and other miscellaneous expenses; Oversee and manage the men’s basketball coaching staff; Oversee fundraising activities and sports camps and clinics |
Required Qualifications | Bachelor’s Degree. Previous experience in coaching Men’s Basketball at the high school or intercollegiate level. Minimum of 1 year coaching experience in Men’s Basketball. Detail oriented, fiscally responsible, establish and maintain good working relationships, strong interpersonal communication skills, ability to comply with the State of Nebraska, MIAA and NCAA polices and procedures. |
Preferred Qualifications | Master’s Degree. 2 or more years of Intercollegiate Head Men’s Basketball Coaching Experience at a 4-year collegiate program. Knowledge of MIAA and NCAA rules and regulations. |
