Based at our Luton manufacturing plant you’ll do just that. Established in 1993, GKN Aerospace in Luton is a world leader in commercial and military ice protection systems and transparencies. Offering a full range of capabilities; design, analysis, testing, certification and manufacture of electro-thermal ice protection, military fast jet canopies and flight deck windows to over 20 programmes including: Boeing 787, Dreamliner, Airbus A320, AgustaWestland, AW101, Eurofighter Typhoon and Lockheed, Martin F-22 Raptor. Our customers include Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopters, Textron, BAE Systems, Pratt & Whitney, Leonardo. Our Luton site is home to 370+ employees and onsite facilities including onsite parking, food hub and vending machines.As Head of Finance you’ll be based at our Luton Manufacturing facility reporting to the Vice President of Finance (based in the U.S) within the Defence Business Line. You will be the most senior financial leader for the Luton site and will lead all financial and accounting practices & controllership fundamentals and ensure integrity of all financial data for the site.This position requires strong business and financial acumen as a key business partner to the Site Director and offers a unique opportunity to utilise diverse financial management experience and proven strategies to ensuring the business is executing on its commitments. To include achieving turn-around activities, optimising business practices and providing financial clarity that will enable the business to achieve its objectives, deliver margin expansion and cash generation, and improved operational performance.As Head of Finance for Luton, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the site’s financial strategy, FP&A forecasting (development of short-range and long-term commits), planning/budget processes, financial modeling and scenario planning, and financials control in accordance for set policies and procedures. Overseas fiscal closing, consolidation & reporting activities, including oversight of robust transactional processing (Accounts Payable and Receivable), providing local management judgement, and reporting of financial results as well as ownership of statutory purposes including overall Profit & Loss (P&L), balance sheet and cash accountability for the site.Additionally, the Head of Finance will be responsible for partnering with the functional leadership and across the business in order to provide financial guidance and co-lead site priorities (e.g. improved budget management, inventory optimisation, production control/planning initiatives, cash deployment strategies) that will drive optimal results to achieve strategic, financial and operational objectives across the business. Support operational performance through mentorship, disciplined financial reporting and a broad application of business/financial principles. Communicate current and future business performance issues in a timely manner. The ideal candidate will also have experience in government contracting and manufacturing environments to in order to support new business capture strategies.Job Responsibilities
- Develop, lead and manage a team of accounting and FP&A professionals, providing all employees opportunity for growth and development
- Responsible for the development, implementation and control of systems and records for accurate reporting and recording of financial information (SAP ERP/Financial Ledger)
- Lead the strategic planning process of the business via creation of multi-year forecast covering revenue, expenses, working capital, fixed assets, and cash flows
- Partnering with the Site Director and broader Site Leadership Team to deliver on financial and operational commitments, performance improvements and develop future strategy
- Support continuous improvement on working capital and on the various elements to maximise cash conversion and enhance local cash deployment strategies
- Provide strong leadership to operating teams to support cross-functional development and communicate clearly on expectations responsibilities to increase accountability
- Maintain accounting procedures and controls to ensure transactions are properly recorded and to safeguard company assets
- Provide accounting policy interpretation and guidance to the accounting and operating teams, including the preparation of accounting position papers
- Leads Internal Audit, external audit and balance sheet reviews
- Ensure Disclosure Statement accurately reflects accounting practices and ensures compliance with Forward Pricing Rate Proposals (FPRPs)
- Develop solutions to complex business issues encountered within the businesses
- Direct special projects comprised of cross functional teams as needed
- Ensure business unit compliance with corporate policies and procedures as well as International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and other applicable guidelines.
- Perform financial analysis and provide insights of impact from developments in operations on budget, forecast and actuals (variance to monthly, quarterly and full year outlooks)
- Participate in commercial evaluations and provide financial in support of business pursuits
- Maintain full compliance with all tax and duty regimes.

Essential:
- Recognised accounting qualification (ACA, CIMA, ACCA)
- Demonstrable experience of Financial leadership in an engineering or manufacturing environment
- Ability to work independently and meet hard deadlines
- Working knowledge of ERP systems and financial tools (SAP, OneStream, TM1)
- Evidence of an ability to instil sound financial management practices and experience of introducing first class management reporting and control processes
- Comfortable developing concise and clear executive-style presentations to support various reviews, forecasting cycles and monthly & quarterly performance briefings
- Advanced Excel, Power Point and Reporting skills
Desirable:
- Prior experience in FP&A and related financial
- Degree in Accounting or Finance
- Experience in a programme orientated environment with knowledge of Aerospace and Defence
- Demonstrate clear understanding and application of cost and indirect Forward-Pricing Rates (Overhead, Material Handling and SG&A) management techniques, including performance against budget and rate monitoring cadence
- Experience leading projects that drive continuous improvement
